What do you suppose the Batty Puppeteers have been up to lately?
Teaching our craft!
This last semester (Aug-Dec) 5 of our puppeteers have been teaching an afterschool program (3rd 4th and 5th grade) on Tuesdays at Rilke Schule (German Immersion) We started with . . .
Shadow Puppets
Stagecraft
Writing scripts, practice and acting with the puppets
Hand puppets. both pre-made and handmade by the students
Scarf Puppets with controllers - handmade by the students
At the end of the semester, the students gave shows for the other students and parents.
THEN, we got Batty and did a marionette show for the students.
All in all, everyone learned a lot. The students wowed us with their talent and the instructors learned a lot as well.
We will be doing another after school program next semester.

Who’s got a puppet story? We’ve been expanding from marionettes to hand puppets lately and having a blast.

Our meeting on April 1 was graced by Mistress Hilarie, the puppeteer. We discussed different types of puppets/marionettes as well as performance. There were so many ideas passed wonderful ideas passed around.

Recently Abe Thomas and I took a puppet wood carving class from Bernd Ogrodnik. We had so much fun tat we encourage you to look at his work and help us fund a trip to Keflavik, Iceland to study marionettes with him. He has a year long course available online, but I could only afford the short 2 month class. But wow, it had tons of wonderful knowledge. We are better for having spent the time and money to go through the class. Just don't ask to see my "Buddy Puppet" yet.

Well, last year Midnight Sun Theater did The Three Musketeers, and this year they did Cyrano de Bergerac, the musical. Also with stage sword fighting choreography. And I was lucky to be in this production as well. A few shots from the show. And hair during and just after.....

What are you doing tonight and tomorrow ? I’m hanging with these peeps and puttin on a show…..at the Harper Studio at UAA, 7:30 tonight and tomorrow and a matinee at 3 tomorrow as well.
