Our current show is “Tangled Virginia“, a collection of works by Alexia Scott and Fae Penland. You don’t want to miss this one! We also have a group show up featuring work by all member artists.

Here are three of the pieces Fae has chosen to include in her collection, “Late Summer Tangle I” “ Late Summer Tangle ll” and “Garden Glory”.

Enjoy her thoughts on this show….

“One of the benefits of belonging to the art collective Middle Street gallery is the opportunity to drive away from the traffic and into the rolling hills of the Rappahannock. There I became intrigued with the colors and patterns in the land. Especially grass.
I loved looking at how the light and wind interacted with the tall blades. I enjoyed thinking about it’s ephemeral nature, the diaphanous structures, the life cycles, and where it tended to grow. I also thought about how people are much like the grass, indeed “how we differ from the rocks”.
When I chose to start drawing the grass I wanted to understand it’s structure and how it interacted with the other grass. I chose black ink for the drawings and collage to represent it’s life process of growth, maturity, and seeds.
I too, like Alexia, look to nature to guide my art. I observe how plants move and change, how it protects the land and is a benefit to the wildlife.”

Our current feature show is “Tangled Virginia“ showcasing a collection of works by Alexia Scott and Fae Penland. We also have work by all members up for you to enjoy! Alexia shares these thoughts about her collection…

“My pollinator gardens become a tangled array of things I plant, and plants the birds plant.
They are such good gardeners - for the pollinators!
During the early morning or evening, when the sun is low,
I draw in ink this tangled construct by nature. I enjoy watching it grow,
winding and blooming without my guidance.” - Alexia Scott

Our current feature show is “Crepuscular“ showcasing a collection of drawings by Wayne Paige. We also have work by all members up for you to enjoy!

Barbara Heile shares her insights about these three paintings that are in the group show…

“I've been following a thread of circles and floating shapes that had caught my eye several years ago.
There is also a bit of connect the dots at play here, imbedded in the layers of paint.
The process of working with the circles is full of surprises and I continue to feel the wonder of the world they create - spacious, playful and simple.”
