Dear Friends and Followers of Kevin H. Adams:
I know that many of you are already aware of this through other channels, but I wanted to reach out through FB to make sure that all who might want to know have heard about the Kevin H. Adams Memorial Fund for Art in the Park that I have endowed in his memory at the Shenandoah National Park Trust, an organization whose mission and work were very dear to Kevin. The Fund is a tribute to Kevin’s artistic legacy and his profound connection to Shenandoah, a place he loved. If you are inclined to make a contribution, info on how to do so is at the end of this post.
Kevin had a long relationship with our National Parks, spending summers painting in the back country of several in the 1980s and showing his paintings at the Department of the Interior Museum and elsewhere. After we moved to Rappahannock County almost 20 years ago, Kevin began a long-term relationship with Shenandoah National Park, including several weeks in 2017 as the Trust’s Artist-in-Residence. Kevin captured the essence of this national treasure in paintings both of the Park, and of the surrounding landscape. These experiences nurtured his own artistic vision as well as his deep love for the natural world. As he himself put it, he hoped that his art would “help others recognize the value of preserving our National Parks for future generations.”
The Memorial Fund will help keep this hope alive by supporting Trust programs that “encourage, educate, or otherwise promote artists interested in Shenandoah National Park and its surroundings as the subject of their artwork.” The Fund will support all types of artists, with an emphasis on mentoring emerging artists, a cause that was very important to Kevin.
I would be deeply grateful if you were able to join me in this endeavor to nurture the artists of tomorrow and ensure that Kevin’s dream of sharing the Park’s beauty and significance lives on.
Through December 31st, I will be matching every donation to the Memorial Fund, up to $75,000, thus doubling the impact of any contribution you are in a position to make. As Kevin often said, it’s important to “pay it forward,” and I can think of no better way to honor his words, and his legacy.
If you click below, you will be taken to a page on the Trust’s website about the Fund, and at the bottom of that page is a link through which you can donate to the Fund (don’t use the general “donate” button at the top). Or if you prefer to mail a check, just note "Kevin H. Adams Memorial Endowment" in the Memo line and mail it to: Shenandoah National Park Trust, PO Box 341, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902.
Thank you. Jay Brown
