KMR Arts “Believe us....this gallery is a fantastic resource to add to your rolodex!” www.designtherapy

Appealing to both the established collector and the first time buyer, KMR Arts continues to present fine art photography in an atmosphere that is warm, inviting, surprising, and smart. Kathy McCarver Root’s extensive career as a photo editor in the world of celebrity and fashion magazines such as Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, Us Weekly and InStyle) makes her uniquely suited to present this exhibition.

She says, “Leo Fuchs’ work is a spectacular record of iconic personalities who trusted Fuchs enough to invite him into their world, a world of glamour, passion, and style.” Kathy McCarver Root is a photography dealer and consultant, working with individual and corporate clients to purchase and install fine art photography. An avid collector herself, McCarver Root gained her experience over two decades while working as a photography editor for books (monographs of Lillian Bassman and David Seymour/Chim, Weekend Retreats, April 2009, Rizzoli) and magazines. Please join KMR Arts in welcoming Brandon Ralph for the opening of his first solo show, The American Vernacular, at the gallery this Saturday, Jun 13, from 3-5:30pm.

In The American Vernacular, Ralph juxtaposes images dominated by text, both unexpected and commonplace, often captured miles and years apart. These works further emphasize how semiotics differ by social, cultural, or historical contexts across the United States, yet as Ralph combines found words photographed in urban, suburban, and rural landscapes, they form a singular image where seemingly disparate people, and the American past and present, meet in seminal harmony. By resynthesizing text unbeholden to original meaning, Ralph forms a new set of narrative possibilities, a new language, reshuffling the deck of our past to offer a new story. Humorous at first glance, The American Vernacular asks the viewer to linger, to note that Ralph accentuates his perspective with deepening irony, commenting on the infinite ways the written word has played a role in shaping societal and cultural perspective in today’s culture. As in his previous works in the series, Ralph’s art evokes nostalgia while addressing contemporary themes.

Signed copies of Ralph’s monograph, The American Experiment, will also be available.

KMR Arts is proud to participate in , a group of design minded shops collaborating on Second Saturdays by presenting special offerings and celebrating this in Washington Depot.
