Shenandoah Salamander! I love learning about lesser known species like this. Living so close to Shenandoah National Park made learning about them feel really meaningful and inspired me to draw up this illustration.

Ever since I was little, my favorite animal has always been an elk. I grew up learning about them on all the hunting channels my grandfather watched. My favorite part about them was their bugle because it was such a strange and haunting call. While hiking in Olympic National park a few years ago, I actually got to hear an elk bugle for the first time in person! It’s a sound I’ve never forgotten, and a big part of why the elk has remained my favorite animal. I hope this piece also inspires you to learn something new about the Rocky Mountain Elk!

Fall is finally winding down, and anyone who knows me knows winter is not my season.. To mourn the end of the warmth, here’s a recent illustration I finished! Leaves are some of my favorite subjects to paint with all their colors.

As always, thanks for taking the time to check out my work! (Will I ever be warm again?)

👻 A spooky illustration for a spooky day!
The Ghost Pipe (Monotropa uniflora) stands only 4-8 inches tall and is completely lacking of any chlorophyll. Instead of photosynthesizing, it feeds on fungi that draw their nutrients from nearby trees.

I really enjoyed the challenge of capturing a white subject on a white background and getting to use sort of muted and more spooky feeling colors.
