Women are disproportionately affected by many autoimmune and chronic conditions. Researchers believe several factors may play a role, including differences in our immune systems, hormones, genetics, and environmental triggers.

But thereโ€™s another piece we donโ€™t talk about enough: women have historically been underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or told that their symptoms were โ€œjust stress,โ€ anxiety, hormones, or something they needed to push through.

So when we see more women being diagnosed today, it doesnโ€™t necessarily mean these illnesses suddenly appeared.

Some of it may be that we are finally recognizing conditions that women have been living with for years.

And autoimmune disease is a perfect example. Women make up the majority of people living with many autoimmune conditions, including lupus.

As someone living with chronic illness, I know how powerful it can be to finally have an explanation for what your body has been trying to tell you. ๐Ÿค

If youโ€™ve ever felt like your symptoms were dismissed or minimized, you are NOT alone.

We need more research. We need better awareness. And most importantly, we need to listen to women when they say, โ€œSomething isnโ€™t right.โ€

Save this for the next time you need the reminder. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ

Iโ€™ve learned the hard way that rest isnโ€™t laziness, weakness, or something I have to โ€œearn.โ€ Sometimes my body gives me signs that I need to slow down, and when I ignore them, eventually it makes the decision for me.

The plans get canceled. The work gets pushed back. The laundry can wait. The world keeps movingโ€ฆ but my body needs me to stop.

Iโ€™m learning that resting BEFORE I completely crash isnโ€™t giving up. Itโ€™s taking care of the body that carries me through every single day. ๐Ÿค

If you live with chronic illness, you know exactly what I mean.

Choose rest before your body has to choose it for you. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

Sometimes the hardest part of living with chronic illness isnโ€™t knowing that I need to restโ€ฆ itโ€™s accepting that I canโ€™t always afford to.

There are bills to pay.
Meals to make.
Laundry to fold.
A home to take care of.
Work to do.
Content to create.
Appointments to keep.
People I love who need me.
Dreams Iโ€™m still chasing.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, my body is saying, โ€œplease slow down.โ€

But when everything feels important, how do you choose rest?

Living with pain 24/7 has taught me that sometimes my body doesnโ€™t ask politely. Sometimes it forces me to stop. And the frustrating part is knowing that the things I want to do and the things my body can do arenโ€™t always the same thing.

Iโ€™m learning that listening to my body doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m giving up on my responsibilities, my goals, or the life I want.

It means learning that I am one of the things Iโ€™m responsible for, too. ๐Ÿฆ‹

Still learning. Still fighting. Still becoming. ๐Ÿ’œ
