Making humans laugh while improving humanity. Grassroots Comedy (formerly Grassroots Comedy DC) sits at the crossroads of comedy and advocacy.

Simply put, we make humans laugh while improving humanity. Our goal is to use comedy to support local nonprofits in their mission to make DC (and the world) a better place for all. We aim to accomplish this via the following ways:
-Hosting stand-up comedy fundraisers (with some of the best comedians in the Mid Atlantic) benefiting a local nonprofit partner each month

-Educating our audience on important issues and the local actors working to address them

-Connecting our local partners with potential advocates, allies, and volunteers

-Building relationships between local organizations working across the nonprofit sector

-Building community around the convergence of comedy and civic engagement

Democracy may be on life support, but our ability to laugh while fighting for something better is alive and kicking.

Join Grassroots Comedy on October 30 for a Halloween themed night of stand-up, spooky cocktails from Hustle Hut, and a costume contest celebrating the (hopeful) resurrection of democracy days before the midterms! Proceeds will go to the critical work of Democracy Renewal Group !

Come dressed to bring democracy back from the dead. Or just come laugh at the people trying.

SPECIAL EDITION! Friendly mic by GOLD Comedy in partnership w/Grassroots Comedy. Ridicule the ridiculous with us! You’ll feel better.

This month’s Open-Open Mic is a special collaboration with our friends at Grassroots Comedy!

As always, bring 2-5 minutes of standup or just say hello—and be prepared to offer and receive (if you want) supportive feedback.

🎤 Want to talk about what’s happening in the world? We’d love that. Inspired by Grassroots Comedy’s Hopin’ Mic, we’re especially inviting comics to bring material about social justice, current events,
stupid Pete Hegseth, or whatever else has you fired up.

🎤 Want to do five minutes about your cat or quantum physics? We’d love that too.

You’ll get:

    • A friendly, supportive, bro-vibe-free space
    • Thoughtful, encouraging feedback
    • A chance to meet comics from both the GOLD and Grassroots Comedy communities

Link in bio to sign-up! Use our referral links in bio if you want to join Gold’s Comedy Club/take their classes!

Join us at the Festival Center June 27 in Washington, DC, for an open-mic show featuring comedy geared toward making the world a better and more hilarious place. Because when headlines include things like talk of UFC fights on the White House lawn, rising oil prices, and fresh attacks on free speech…providing a space for levity with a purpose is literaly the least we can do.

This evening will also serve as an opportunity for our Grassroots Comedy Catalyst students to get some stage experience alongside their more seasoned comedy peers. Prior to the show, we’ll be hosting a happy hour, funny protest sign making in preparation for upcoming Freedom 250 celebrations, and some light comedic action planning as the evening takes shape. While art supplies will be limited (with priority given to currently enrolled Catalyst students), we encourage you to bring any relevant crafting materials that might make your artwork pop.

A very funny, very q***r show produced by Grassroots Comedy to celebrate The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center and the beginning of Pride Month!

⚠️ Please note: the show date has been changed to June 5th! ⚠️

*Happy Hour: 7:00 - 7:45 pm

*Show: 8pm

Across the country, LGBTQ+ people are losing access to care, protection, and support. These aren’t abstract policy changes — they are real people losing the resources they rely on to stay safe and well. And when that happens, many come to Washington, DC, a place long considered a site of refuge for vulnerable communities.

That’s why we’re producing the Comedy Show for LGBTQ+ Prosperity, with a portion of proceeds going to The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center! The Center educates, empowers, uplifts, celebrates, elevates, and connects the le***an, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. And we at Grassroots want to honor that mission by producing a comedy show on June 5th to benefit the Community Center and the communities they serve.

05/20/2026

Next up on the gay agenda: our May 30th Comedy Show for LGBTQ+ Prosperity! 🏳️‍🌈 🎉

We’re partnering with to bring you comedy, community, and q***r choas. 🎤🌈

Bi the way, tickets are on sale in our bio. Grab yours today! 😉🎟️
