Charles Bergen Studios Charles Bergen, Artist and Architect, Specializing in Site Specific Public Art Projects Much of my work focuses on this “water” wildlife.

In my artwork I have always been intrigued by wildlife that lives in, on, or near the water. That being said I have also done sculptures of bears, owls, cats and other creatures that are not water focused. I like working in simplified forms that capture the essence of the animal I am sculpting. Inuit art and sculpture I enjoy very much. From an early age I have always been interested in animals,

what they look like, their habitats and how they live. They are incredibly intelligent and possess intelligence humans are only just starting to understand. Animals have always captured my imagination for their beauty, power and for some of them their social natures. SERVICES: Wood Carving, Sculpture, Public Art, Relief Sculpture, Signage that incorporates Artwork, Artwork that incorporates Signage, Three dimensional Signage, Metal Sculpture, Furniture Design with fabrication by others, Art Education, Sculptures that act as low walls, booths, furniture or conference rooms. Sculptural Murals in wood, metal and found objects. Designing artwork or signage that can be cut out at a low cost by computer driven routers, laser cutters or CNC machines. Selection and design of outdoor furniture and streetscape elements. WHAT INTERESTS ME: Working with clients and organizations to create artwork that communicates their organizations or businesses core values and mission in a light hearted way. Working with wood, metal, clay and other materials to create sculpture that engages and delights people of all ages, walks of life and backgrounds. Creating artwork that people want to touch and hang out with. Creating artwork that brings nature and wildlife indoors or into the urban environment. Creating large sculptures from hard wood trees cut down in the area. Creating artwork that reflects the history and culture of the neighborhood in which it physically resides. Creating sculptures that people can interact with safely. WHAT I CAN BRING TO A PROJECT: All of the above as well as An understanding of an interest in how things are made, finished and protected from the weather. An ability to work at a range of scales whether it be at the scale of a large building or a hand held piece of art. Business, technical and design experience that comes with over twenty years of practicing architecture in the Washington, DC Area. I bring to the program a working method is typically as follows but will vary depending on the project:
• Initially I do profile/elevation drawings, profile, silhouette cut outs or simple volumetric studies in clay of the work to understand its shape and explore the possibilities of the proposed work.
• After getting a general sense for the piece or pieces I then do more involved three dimensional studies in paper/cardboard or sculpt in clay more elaborate studies.
• The final piece is then cast in iron, bronze, plaster or resin; carved in wood; welded/fabricated in metal; cut out with a plasma or laser cutter, router or CNC machine or assembled from found objects.
• With my training and practice as an architect I am also very comfortable doing design drawings, reviewing a fabricator’s engineered shop drawings and then having a piece fabricated by others.

Good Morning,

The Memorial Trust will officially open the Memorial next Sunday (6 June 21). Travel restrictions mean that the veterans and non-French attendees will have to stay in the UK and join in by livestream video. You can see the ceremony live on the British Normandy Memorial website from 10am UK time on Sunday (which is 5am EST ). If that is too early for you the recording of the opening will be on the website soon afterwards.

I have attached a photo of one of the Gold Beach Waymarkers taken recently. Great weather and they look super.
See this link below for more details on the Five Waymarkers that lead to the Five DDAY Invasion Beaches.

Memorials and statues to famous men abound in Washington, D.C., but you can count on one hand the number of those found in the city dedicated to famous women. Charles Bergen Studios, with guidance from historian Mara Cherkasky of Prologue DC, LLC, has added eight more locations dedicated to notable women.

We’ve assembled them into a tour you can explore in the free Traipse app! --> http://bit.ly/2O1KDrj
