Can I be honest? I haven’t practiced everyday for more than a week in over 3 years 🥴 I don’t say this to brag but out of shame because I knew the toll it took on my skill, my sound, and my love for DJing. Even after 15 years of DJing (I can’t believe it’s been that long) I NEED TO PRACTICE! YOU NEED TO PRACTICE!
I liken it to Kobe, MJ, LeBron or Steph. As great as they are, they are in the gym EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. PERIOD. It took me falling out of love for DJing to realize this and I knew what contributed to falling out of love.
1. Life - it gets the best of us. I had kids, started a business, quit my job, constant change and it pulled me away.
2. Moving back to a city where the sounds and music I grew to love wasn’t appreciated (Oh Dallas…this is going to be another post in itself lol)
3. The pressures to perform versus just be. It’s a blessing to share this gift and it’s about the impact on the person receiving, not how it makes you look in front of everyone (We WILL discuss this more at a later time lol)
All this to say, never stop practicing, never stop learning, never stop listening, never stop discovering. Share you gift with the world and steward that gift properly. Clips from last night discovery sessions jumping back into the styles and genres of music I actually want to share and not the music I’ve been confined to
If you actually made it to the end of this and felt it, drop a 🎧 and let me know if this is helped in anyway. Otherwise, let me save all these texts for convos with wifey 😂
