The more I look The more I see

We live in a time when people are quick to judge and quick to choose sides. Often, we stop looking once we find something that confirms what we already believe. This work is a reminder to slow down. To spend more time observing than reacting. To stay curious long enough to see what might be missed at first glance.

The less I need to be right, the more I am able to understand.

I currently have two exhibitions on view: one in Washington, DC, and one in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

What feels interesting to me is that both bodies of work were created in Washington, DC, but the materials come from different places. The exhibition in Chiang Mai features paintings made on canvas that I brought from the United States. The exhibition in Washington, DC is painted on textiles I collected in Thailand and stretched as painting surfaces.

The older I get, the more interested I become in the exchange of ideas, materials, and traditions. I enjoy seeing how knowledge travels, adapts, and finds new meaning in different places without losing where it came from.

The exhibition in Washington, DC is on view through September 6, and the group exhibition in Chiang Mai opens in August 2026.

Instead of solving problems, we’ve become very good at talking about them, displaying them, sharing them, and building identities around them. Awareness alone is not enough. Real responsibility is messy, difficult, and often inconvenient. Maybe we need less performance and more participation. 🤍

OPINION: I have been thinking recently about how much contemporary culture enjoys the idea of “discomfort” while remaining slightly unwilling to experience it actively.

Really excited to have the opportunity to bring artists, curators, and educators from the DMV area to visit Thailand this August 🇹🇭

Creating conversations around how different cultures see, value, and use art is something I’ve always been interested in through my career. While art in the U.S. is often discussed through exhibitions and institutions, in Thailand creativity is woven into everyday life—from temples and architecture to crafts, food, and traditions passed down through generations.

Part of the purpose of this affordable cultural exchange trip is to make international travel more accessible by creating opportunities to connect with artists, artisans, local businesses, and cultural spaces. Rather than focusing on luxury vacations, I hope we can learn from and support local communities, gain new perspectives, and explore how Thai artists and makers continue to preserve traditions through their work.

I hope to continue organizing trips like this a couple of times a year, creating more opportunities for artists from the East and West to connect, learn from one another, and share knowledge. I believe these connections help us better understand one another and the world around us.
