I don't know how I feel about this one - olive eggs always end up more muted for me and this one is no exception.

It was a beautiful olive egg and it etched back to a nice blue, so I was trying to pull out the colors. Ubfortunately, the black didn't saturate well so it ended up a very soft looking gray.

I waited so long to use this beautiful speckled deeply brown egg, and I am glad I did. This is one of my top favorite eggs that I've ever made.

This is a travlenka, an etched egg. No dye was used at all. I started with a beautiful dark brown chicken egg. Using the same wax-resist method as pysanky, I applied design, then placed the egg in regular vinegar for minutes at a time, scrubbing the egg with a extra soft toothbrush in between each step (write with wax/etch wirh vinegar/scrub/repeat). I finished them up last night, and am hoping to dive in for some more (with more detail) this week.

Two great classes at this weekend!

Such different tones in the classes - lots of chatting in the first, and more quiet concentration in the second.

One of the things I love most about teaching is that every class is different and reflects the many things I enjoy about pysanky - reflection on the season, personal meanings in design, celebrating community, and individual focus, among other things.
