One part new play festival, one part writing workshop, one part X-Factor. Scribe Night features readings of five scenes from local playwrights read by professional actors on stage in front of a panel of three theatre professionals and the audience. Each writer submits 5-10 pages of an unpublished work they want feedback on and one question they need answered. The writers are kept anonymous, to encourage fearlessness in their submissions and give a platform for previously unknown playwrights. After each reading comes (loving) judgement! Each one of the three panelists gives their brief feedback. At the end of the night, each panelist picks one play segment to “adopt,” meaning that they’ll give a longer, written feedback to the playwright after the show.
