Founded in 1961 The Washington Chorus is one of the foremost symphonic choruses in the nation. Noted for the superb artistry of its performances and recordings of the entire range of the choral repertoire, TWC is widely recognized as a cultural leader in the nation’s capital. A three-time nominated and two-time Grammy Award winner, the 200-voice Washington Chorus presents an annual subscription series at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, regularly performs at the invitation of the National Symphony Orchestra, and is frequently featured in other venues such as the Music Center at Strathmore in Maryland and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Virginia.

We’re in rehearsal for a powerful work of remembrance.

This October, The Washington Chorus joins the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to perform John Adams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning “On the Transmigration of Souls”, a memorial to those lost on September 11.

As we prepare for this important performance, we’re honored to lend our voices to a work that continues to create space for memory, reflection, and remembrance.

The Washington Chorus is excited to share our upcoming 2026-27 season, featuring 3 main concerts and collaborations with multiple orchestras! 🎶

Kicking off the fall, TWC joins the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for composer John Adams' "On the Transmigration of Souls". With performances from October 15-18, conductor Marin Alsop leads the BSO and TWC for this Pulitzer Prize-winning composition.

From December 12-22, TWC returns for our annual fan-favorite "A Candlelight Christmas", ringing in the holidays with the true spirit of the season at three venues across the DMV.

On February 28, we celebrate our 65th anniversary with a profound performance of Nkeiru Okoye’s "When the Caged Bird Sings", featuring an all-star cast at DAR Constitution Hall.

Returning to Strathmore on May 8, TWC partners with the National Philharmonic to present Mozart’s "Requiem" and the East Coast premiere of Jocelyn Hagen’s "What the Soul Already Knows".

We conclude our season with another BSO collaboration June 11-13 with Giuseppe Verdi’s monumental "Requiem".

For over six decades, The Washington Chorus has been a cultural leader in the nation’s capital and one of the foremost symphonic choruses in the country.

Since 1961, our 220-voice Chorus has earned international recognition for the artistry of its performances and recordings, including three Grammy nominations and two Grammy wins! From the Kennedy Center and Strathmore to Wolf Trap and performances with the National and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras, we have built a legacy of bringing exceptional choral music to audiences throughout the region.

But… our work is about more than preserving a great tradition. Through our programming, we reimagine beloved classics, uncover overlooked masterpieces, and champion new works by living composers, all while building meaningful artistic partnerships across the DMV.
