We’re skating into the cozy holiday season at with live jazz on our toasty indoor stage every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7-9pm and Sunday afternoons from 3-5pm. Come enjoy the amazing winter specialty cocktails to warm your veins, and listen to lively tunes played by some of the greatest musicians in the city to keep the blood pumping. There’s never a cover charge, but please come prepared to eat and drink plentifully and tip the band generously. St. Vincent Wine will be closed 12/24-12/25, but if you’re looking for NYE plans, stay tuned for our announcement on our New Orleans-inspired celebration featuring music from the trio playing Second Line brass band tunes all night!

The energy from last night will be carrying me through until the end of 2024! I’m overwhelmed by how much love was in that room last night for the inaugural Soul of the City. I have so many people to thank:

* , , .azouri, , , and . Considering most of you had never worked together before last night, it sure felt like a family by the the end of the evening. The joy you brought to your performances, and the love you showed each other reassured me that music is safe in DC.

* , , and all the staff who made us sound great, brought us espressos and tequila, and turned the room into a magical paradise. Y’all are some real ones, and you are one of the best-run venues I’ve ever worked with. Thanks for being an outpost for the real DC music scene.

* Every single one of you who came out to support, and filled that dancefloor with love and positivity! And those who couldn’t make it, thanks for your texts, reposts, and reassuring words. There were people there last night whom I’ve know for 30 years, and those whom I met 30 days ago, all from different worlds in DC. Watching new friendship and new dance partners be made kept me smiling all night.

* , whose grant made this all possible. My goal was to uplift our musical culture in this city, but also unite musical worlds that never cross paths. If we can dance together and share our music, we can keep the soul of this city in tact.

I love you all, and I can’t wait to do this again with each and every one of you. Let’s keep DC funky.

Anyone have access to photos of classic DC nightlife over the years (i.e. pictures of the old 930 club, Tracks and Nation, Bohemian Caverns, State of the Union, etc...anything that represented a great musical moment in our city's history)?

For countless generations, you could find some of the best music in the world safely hidden in the many soulful corners of Washington, DC. Our city HAS grown and changed, but our music is still the greatest on the globe. However, those little soulful corners have become even more compartmentalized and separated, and our city has become more divided than ever.

BUT WHAT IF WE, THE MUSIC LOVERS, SHARED OUR MUSIC TOGETHER ON THE DANCEFLOOR? What if DC’s rich legacy of Jazz, Soul, House, Funk, Latin, and Carribbean music collided to show that our musical culture can be the best weapon against dividing us?

THE SOUL OF THE CITY will showcase three of the city’s greatest DJs each paired with one of DC’s most accomplished live musicians, all of them representing different musical communities in Washington. (whose amazing parties are known as DC’s “Flagship Multicultural Experience”) will showcase the saxophone of . .azouri (whose Thursday People parties at Flash were legendary before he became a staple in the house music scene) will be featuring on vocals. And . (whose soulful sound earned her a feature at the Kennedy Center) will have joining her on live drums. In addition to their own sets, the three DJs will close the evening with a Back2Back2Back collaboration, where they will take turns playing off each other’s style and sound.

Thanks to a generous grant from , the entire evening will be presented by for FREE on Thursday, September 26th at in NE DC. All you need to do is RSVP, and show up at 9pm prepared to join your musical brothers and sisters on the dance floor with open ears, full hearts, and comfortable shoes.

Returning from Rio, we are welcoming home trumpeter and his band as they deliver a set of Brazilian music infused with elements of funk and jazz. Rounding out the evening will be a special DJ set by , keeping us dancing and we sip on craft cocktails into the late night.

We’ve got every Monday, and we feature rotating artists every Wednesday and Thursday (with ’s doing their calypso jazz on alternating Thursdays). What happens if you throw funk, jazz, Balkan music, New Orleans second line, and a million other global genres in a blender? YOU WILL DANCE.
