World-renowned glass artist and painter Erwin Eisch has died at the age of 94. This was confirmed by his daughter Katharina Eisch-Angus on Tuesday.
Erwin Eisch fell asleep after midnight in the retirement home in Zwiesel, where he had lived since October. "On January 7, he celebrated a diamond wedding with his wife," said Katharina Eisch-Angus. The parents Erwin and Gretel Eisch had celebrated the 60th anniversary of their marriage together in the home. The death was unexpected, as Erwin Eisch was in good health. The last few days, when his condition had deteriorated, someone from the family had always been with him.
Internationally renowned artist Erwin Eisch is one of the most important Bavarian artists internationally. Together with the American Harvey Littleton, he founded the international studio glass movement in the 60s. For the first time, glass was no longer used as a purely functional material, but as a medium of artistic expression. Eisch became a source of inspiration for future generations of artists.

Maurine I sent you an email last night about something cool I ran across. It has sparked a lot of conversation on my FB page with some other Verona people . As a result I posted a picture of a bowl my Mom purchased from your Dad ...as a second...of course because that was all she could afford. I was reading a novel that mentioned a "Chihuly" and when I looked it up I found that he had studied under your Dad! I felt a sense of pride that I actually knew his professor and it brought a great smile to my face!
