Cagedbirds Productions Cagedbirds Productions affirms the black, q***r lived experience on screen and on stage. It was a success both shows sold out.

Cagedbirds started out as a writing competition for Memphis-area middle/high school students. Our focus is to encourage and showcase the literary work of at-risk young people. We’ve partnered closely with the Memphis Juvenile Court System, Northwest Prep, Hope Academy, and Martin Luther King Alternative School. Caged Birds would like to give a special thanks to Pamela Odie at Jail East, Jeffrey Ta

ylor at Martin Luther King, and Principal Michael J. Smith at Hope Academy for helping to push this program into the lives of their students. In 2020, Cagedbirds had a successful play called "When Boy's Exhale" based on the movie "Waiting to Exhale" in January of 2020. Due to covid, the play could not return for the spring showcase. To change gears we applied for the Arts and Humanities Grant and begin to work on our first featured film "The Shows Of Black Pebbles." Our vision is a social horror film about a black, gay republican haunted by the ghost of a murdered, unarmed black man. The plot explores society's fear of black bodies and the concept of sexual soul ties, where remnants of the soul linger within sexual partners. Not only is it an allegory for STIs but it depicts the body itself as a haunted house rather than an actual dwelling.
