"My Conversations with Barragán": An Exhibition by Mexican-American visual artist Martirene Alcántara opens to the public on September 4.

This photographic exhibition explores the architecture of Luis Barragán through perception, memory, and emotion.

In her photographs, Alcántara approaches architecture not simply as something to be observed, but as something to be experienced, remembered, and felt. Through her lens, Barragán’s carefully composed spaces become a dialogue of light, color, geometry, rhythm, and silence.

Rather than simply documenting Barragán’s architecture, Alcántara looks for what might otherwise remain hidden: a fleeting shadow, a fragment of color, a reflection, or a moment of light. Her photographs invite us to consider how architecture can move beyond the physical and become an emotional and personal experience.

See you on Sunday, September 13 for an inspiring evening with Pati Jinich—James Beard Award-winning chef, Emmy-nominated television host, and one of the leading ambassadors of Mexican cuisine in the United States—as she presents her latest book and discusses the stories, experiences, and flavors that inspired it.

Following a conversation with Cecilia Vega and Enrique Perret + Q&A with the audience, guests are invited to a book signing and reception featuring a special food spread from Tacombi inspired by Foods of La Frontera, along with special wines from CASA MADERO, the oldest winery in the Americas, which will be featured in an upcoming episode of Season 15 of Pati’s Mexican Table.

Today marks 110 years since Consuelo Velázquez was born, the celebrated Mexican composer who secretly wrote "Bésame mucho," one of history's most famous love songs.

She hid her authorship, fearing it would hurt her career as a classical pianist. Once revealed, the song topped the U.S. charts and was later covered by Sinatra, Elvis, and The Beatles.

We are pleased to present the Walsh-García Collection, featuring more than 450 books and materials that offer a unique glimpse into three generations of one family's longstanding relationship with Mexico.

On June 18, 2026, Eugene Walsh García donated this remarkable library to the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C. It began with Eugene's maternal grandfather, originally from Campeche, who started the collection with titles such as My Art, My Life by Diego Rivera and The Aztecs, People of the Sun by Alfonso Caso and even an 1898 first edition of one of the Maya dictionaries compiled during the colonial era of Mexico titled: Coordinación Alfabética de las Voces del Idioma Maya (Alphabetical Compilation of Maya Language Terms).

Next came Thomas F. Walsh, a Georgetown University professor and passionate admirer of Mexico, who on one of his trips met María de los Ángeles García Campos. From their union came Eugene, who today passes this legacy on to us.

From studies of Mexican history and culture to publications exploring popular traditions and everyday life, the Walsh-García Collection reflects not only the richness and complexity of Mexico's cultural heritage, but a family's personal story, dedication and, above all, love for the country. Now at the Mexican Cultural Institute, it becomes a resource for scholars, researchers, students, and the public to explore.

Update: The collection exhibit will open to the public on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

¡Los «Alebrijes & Nahuales» llegaron a Salinas, California!

La exposición "Alebrijes & Nahuales: Animales Fantásticos de México" abrió sus puertas el pasado 31 de julio, con ocho piezas monumentales de casi seis metros de altura, y el 7 de agosto, con la incorporación de 30 alebrijes en formato miniatura que podrán visitarse en distintas locaciones de Salinas, incluyendo Northridge Mall, Steinbeck Center, Sherwood Hall, Salinas Regional Soccer Complex, One Main Street, Vineyard Church y Star Market hasta el 4 de septiembre.

Nuestra Directora Ejecutiva, Marta Turok, asistió a esta segunda inauguración y, durante su visita, impartió la charla "Art, Community & Creative Economics", en la que habló sobre cómo el arte, la cultura y la creatividad conectan a las comunidades, transforman los espacios compartidos y generan nuevas oportunidades.

Curada por Carlo Magno Pedro, con dirección de proyecto de Romain Greco, la muestra se encuentra actualmente de gira por Estados Unidos y reúne el trabajo de distintos artistas mexicanos, entre ellos la familia Linares, reconocida por su aporte a la tradición de la cartonería y por dar origen a los alebrijes, cuya historia se remonta al mercado de La Merced, en la Ciudad de México, desde 1936. También incluye piezas de Angélico Jiménez, Adrián Xuana, Efraín Fuentes, Margarito Melchor, María Jiménez, Giovanni Melchor y Constantino Blas.

🍴¡Felicitamos al gran equipo del restaurante Pascual por recibir el ! Este martes 12 de agosto, el Embajador Roberto Lazzeri Montaño entregó este reconocimiento a la chef Isabel Coss y a todo su equipo, artífices de uno de los proyectos gastronómicos favoritos de la capital estadounidense.

Todo comenzó en febrero de 2024, cuando Isabel Coss, con profundos lazos con su natal Ciudad de México y décadas de experiencia culinaria, decidió llevar a la cocina los sabores de su infancia junto a su esposo, el chef Matt Conroy. Así nació Pascual, un restaurante centrado en la cocina a la leña, cuyo nombre hace un guiño a San Pascual Bailón, el santo patrono de los cocineros y las cocinas en México.

Pascual ha cosechado numerosos distintivos: fue nombrado uno de los "Mejores Restaurantes Nuevos de Estados Unidos en 2024" por Eater, y Michelin lo incluyó en su guía de Washington D.C., calificándolo como «destacado en su categoría». Y ahora recibe el por la calidad y autenticidad de sus sabores.
