It’s funny looking back at the first year of the DC Comedy Festival.

One of the comedians on that festival was Shane Gillis. At the time, the word around town was that we were “the urban festival.” Looking back, that’s kind of wild and Super disrespectful, but Haters hate. It also let us know we had something.

No matter what you’ve heard about the DC Comedy Festival over the years, we’ve always been about one thing: promoting comedy in the Washington, DC metro area.

When we started in 2017, there was really only one established comedy club in the city. Today there are 5 clubs, independent venues, showcases, and opportunities for comedians all across the DMV.

People often ask who the next breakout star from the festival will be. The truth is, we don’t make stars. The comedians do that themselves through talent, hard work, and persistence. We’ve just try to build a platform where great comics can be seen.

We’ve already watched so many talented comedians come through the festival, and honestly, it still feels like we’re just getting started.

Can’t wait to see where we go from here.
