Iconoclastic destiny

The urban wall of 8 mile road
Dividing black from white
A line piercing Detroit
Post-industrial urban blight

Dre was a mentor
But Proof was first
Portal to the Detroit scene
Eminem’s boundless thirst

Raw and intense
Lyrically dense
Fiercely provocative

Always iconoclastic
Energy transgressive
She toyed with gender
Her ethos suggestive

Dave Stewart her partner
Together, the Eurythmics
Innovating in the eighties
Undermining toxic systems

Annie’s fierce feminism
Her anthem with Aretha
She captured the moment
Liberation’s sacred fever

He is an icon and a maverick—a voice of hope, sensuality, pain, and liberation…

This creatrix rises to amplify the power of pride and s*xuality—to bring the joys of the grind to our post-apocalyptic civilization…

Like so many young black men—especially q***r young black men—he wondered if his lips were too big, or if his skin were too dark…

These questions—so emblematic of white supremacy—are profoundly toxic, corroding self-worth and creating wellsprings of internalized oppression…

i did a good bit of research for this poem on Tupac Shakur... i read a biography, 'Only God Can Judge Me'.... which was rich... i also listened to a bunch of playlists and watched a few documentaries... my friend Dylan Petrohilos generated a set of graphics... then i discovered that my friend David Amoroso created a painting of Tupac in 2020... so both of their art is featured... i'd love to hear your thoughts on the poem...
