Just one week from our Houston Pride Concert, we are spotlighting one of our violists ! Currently an adjudicator and Program Manager for the Honors Performance Series, Ruby Ortiz received their undergraduate degree in music education from the Stephen F. Austin State University and have served as an orchestra director and adjudicator in Texas and beyond. Ruby participated in IPO in 2024 and was inspired to establish the Houston Pride Orchestra in their home state. The orchestra offers a safe space for q***r people and allies to flourish in the Houston area and hosted their first concert on May 3. We applaud Ruby for championing LGBTQ+ musicians and encourage you to join us for another evening of q***r music-making on June 3rd at the Cullen Center! Tickets in bio 🏳️‍🌈

Music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gabriela Lena Frank to be featured on IPO’s June 3 program in Houston!

Born in Berkeley, California to a mother of mixed Peruvian/Chinese ancestry and a father of Lithuanian/Jewish descent, Gabriela explores her multicultural heritage through her compositions. Her music often reflects not only her own personal experience as a multi-racial Latina, but also refracts her studies of Latin American cultures, incorporating poetry, mythology, and native musical styles into a western classical framework that is uniquely her own.

Hear IPO perform the wildly energetic “Mestizo Waltz” from her Three Latin American Dances live at the Wortham Center!
