☀️Day: Part 1 Perfect Evening☀️

Evening is the completion of the day and the rhythm of time. At the end of the day, the sky fills with hues of blue, purple, pink, and orange, and the sun is on its descent.

Temperatures shift as the day’s heat subsides with the sun. Sunsets are breathtaking and hold an energy of stillness even in chaotic environments. A liminal space between light and darkness. Evening is a space
of transition, stillness, and spiritual reflection.

The fading of light becomes symbolic of rest, surrender, and the quiet tension between endings and renewal.

Created through layered and hand-assembled organic materials, Evening translates the atmosphere, color, and emotional weight of dusk into sculptural form, inviting viewers to reflect on stillness, vulnerability, and humanity’s relationship to the natural world.

The swamp exists between land and water, growth, and decay. A place where water remembers, and roots persist.

✨Artist Intro✨

Hi everyone! My name is Valencia, the artist behind Plant Matter. I create botanical sculptural works using sustainably sourced and discarded plant materials to explore spirituality, Black ecology, womanhood, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Through weaving, assemblage, and organic forms, my work reflects cycles of creation, preservation, decay, and renewal. Transforming what has been overlooked into spaces of contemplation, care, and connection.

Thank you for supporting my work and being apart of of this journey as it continues to evolve. Follow along as I explore the intersections of nature, spirituality, womanhood, and ecological storytelling through botanical art.

☀️Day: Part 1 Perfect Morning☀️

Morning reflects the first day of creation. Inspired by the dawns I’ve witnessed, I’ve found it dim, foggy, and moist. The colors in the sky grey, with a small transition of hues of blues and yellows as the sun continues to rise.

The sun operates as a life force within the artwork. A giver of life, warmth, energy, and nourishment for the planet and its inhabitants. Light is a physical presence and a symbol of divine order, transformation, and new beginnings.

Created using hand-dyed raffia that I dye, weave, and assemble myself, the piece translates the textures, colors, and emotional atmosphere of dawn and mid-morning into sculptural form. Through layered fibers and organic movement, Morning reflects the beauty, fragility, and sacred rhythm of the natural world.
