M CENTRAL is a pop-up art + creative space at 700 H Street NE that will serve as the most accessible and imaginative venue for forward-thinking artists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and public servants to convene and connect throughout Inauguration Weekend
M CENTRAL is being produced by a cross-disciplinary team of partnering organizations that include the Millennial Trains Project, a DC-based non
-profit organization, No Kings Collective, a DC-based arts collective, and the New America Foundation, a non-partisan public policy organization. The main events taking place at M CENTRAL are as follows:
THE OPENING OF THE AMERICANA X TRAINS EXHIBIT (Friday, Jan. 18; 8PM-1AM; Free) a slate of original railroad and civically-inspired artwork created by some of the country’s leading contemporary and graffiti artists, including Tim Conlon “CON,” Bryan Conner “REI 21,” Brandon Hill, Kelly Towles, AnieKan Udofia, Billy Colbert, and Juan Pineda. (The exhibition will remain open and free to the public through Monday, Jan. 21.) THE MILLENNIAL IDEAS FORUM (Saturday, Jan. 19; 10AM-5PM; Free) is a convening of emerging Millennial thought leaders jointly organized by the New America Foundation and the Millennial Trains Project. It will feature a day-long series of panel discussions and interactive workshops, as well as a service component wherein participants will co-create a large community mural. (Confirmed panelists include the White House Liaison for Young Americans, the U.S. State Department’s Special Adviser for Global Youth Issues, USAID’s Director of Policy Planning, multiple Forbes 30 under 30 inductees, and more than a dozen other impressive young entrepreneurs and innovators.) THE INAUGURAL MILLENNIAL BALL (Saturday, Jan. 19; 8PM-1AM; $75/ticket, open bar) is a musical celebration of all that the future holds for the next Great Generation. Because there is no official “Youth Ball” at this year’s Inauguration, the Inaugural Millennial Ball fills a critical void by catering directly to the thousands of enterprising and civic-minded young people that will be in Washington, DC for inauguration weekend. (PERFORMANCES BY ODDISEE, THE FUNK ARK, AND BRASS CONNECTION; DJ SET BY MAYER HAWTHORNE). INAUGURATION EVE AT M CENTRAL (Sunday, Jan. 20, 8PM-1AM; $20/ticket, cash bar) will feature a line-up of local indie bands and provide an accessible option for young Inauguration attendees. ROYALTY, LOW CUT CONNIE, AND SHARK WEEK). Sponsorships are payable to the Millennial Trains Project (MTP, inc.), a 501(c)(3) pending non-profit organization that has taken on the responsibility of covering production costs for M CENTRAL.
