What a magical night in the Enchanted Forest! 🌿✨

Our owners, Heidi and Marjorie, were so glad to support and attend City Blossoms' Annual Garden Fiesta Gala on Kennedy Street. There was face paint, twinkling garden paths, and plenty of good conversation with neighbors doing meaningful work in our community.

We were also happy to spend the evening with fellow local business owner Ceimone Henry of Wellness Oasis on Kennedy đź’š

Thank you, City Blossoms, for opening your garden and for everything you do to grow healthy, creative spaces for DC kids and families. Nights like this remind us how much connection matters.

Real community connection (the kind that happens outside, in person, with your neighbors) is one of the most underrated things you can do for your mental health.

That’s why we’re excited to sponsor City Blossoms’ annual Garden Fiesta: Enchanted Forest — a celebration of kid-driven green spaces, creativity, and the community connections that help neighborhoods thrive.

At KCC, we believe mental health is supported not only through therapy, but also through the relationships, activities, and communities that give us a sense of belonging.

Join us for an evening of connection, creativity, and celebration on Friday, September 18!

⏰ 6:00–9:00pm

📍 , City Blossoms Studio, 516 Kennedy St NW

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re already carrying a lot. At KCC, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Lindsey, our matching specialist, takes the time to listen. She learns what you’re looking for, then connects you with a therapist whose experience, approach, and personality align with your needs.

It begins with a free 15-minute conversation. No pressure. No guessing. Just a thoughtful first step toward finding the right fit.

From there, you choose what works best for you: virtual, in-person, or a mix of both. đź’¬

Not every session feels the same. One week you might be laughing. The next, you’re crying. And some weeks feel quiet, or like nothing much happened at all.

That variance is completely normal. In fact, it’s usually a sign the process is working.

In this blog, Marjorie pulls back the curtain on the different kinds of therapy sessions and what your therapist is actually doing in each one. The foundation builders. The life-happens sessions. The quiet ones. The deep dives. The ones where you’re finally feeling better, and your therapist uses that as a moment to go deeper.

Each one has a purpose. Each one is part of your story.

Consistency in therapy isn’t just about the big breakthroughs. It’s about showing up through every season, knowing your therapist knows your story and is ready to meet you wherever you are that day.

You’ve thought about starting therapy. Maybe more than once. But the cost made you pause.

That hesitation is totally understandable.

Our latest blog explains how sliding scale therapy works at KCC and introduces the Pink Bottle Method, a simple visual way to rethink mental health.

We’re also excited to welcome our August interns, Mackenzie Ford and Lydia Thompson, to the KCC team. They are training under close supervision and bringing compassion and care to every session.

Cost concerns shouldn’t be the only reason you keep putting off getting support.

“She meets me where I am each session.”

Choosing a therapist is deeply personal. And when you find someone who makes you feel heard, understood, and supported, you want to express how grateful you are.

A KCC client recently shared these words about their experience working with Morgan Chafin. We’re grateful for their trust and honored to share a piece of their therapy journey.

Every therapy journey looks different, but behind each one is someone choosing to show up, reflect, and take steps forward.

Thank you to this client for putting their experience into words and trusting Morgan with something so personal.

As summer winds down across DC, many families are getting ready for more than a new school year. They’re getting ready for transitions: a new teacher, a new classroom, a different routine. For children, these changes can bring excitement and stress at the same time. And when kids don’t have the words, those feelings often show up through behavior: bigger meltdowns, more worries, trouble sleeping, or extra clinginess.

We’re excited to welcome Dori Brown to our child and family therapy team. Through play therapy, she helps children work through big feelings in the language they know best: play.

How does your child usually show they’re having a hard day?

What if your next prescription wasn’t a medication, but a Saturday morning volunteering or 20 minutes outside?

It’s called social prescribing, a growing movement that encourages providers to prescribe connection, movement, nature, creativity, and community alongside traditional treatment.

At KCC, we believe in it because we see it work. Therapy matters, but so do friendships, purpose, and belonging. Some of the biggest shifts happen when people reconnect with the people, places, and activities that give their lives meaning.

Mental health isn’t just about reducing symptoms. It’s about building a life that supports wellbeing.

If you had one extra hour each week dedicated to your wellbeing, how would you spend it?

What does it mean when your therapy practice is owned by therapists, not a corporation?

Simple: the people making decisions about your care are the same people sitting across from you in session.

In investor-owned practices, growth drives decisions. In therapist-owned practices, care does.

That means therapists have the space to know their clients, stay longer, and focus on what matters most.

And because we’re local, we understand the pressures of life in DC, from demanding careers to federal workforce uncertainty.

Therapy doesn’t happen outside of life. It happens inside it.
