Love how Kehinde took a traditional European 'masterpiece' and takes back the historical representation of power in old white men and puts it on his head by placing a young black man in the same pose with military garb and what looks like timberland boots on.
The second photo is the original painting by Jacques-Louis David commissioned by the King of Spain in 1800 to celebrate Napoleon's victory over the Austrians. There are lot of other details that can't be seen on your phone.

Visited the National Gallery of Art today with the fam. Its amazing that we can see these amazing artworks on our digital devices anytime and anywhere, but to see them in person is a whole different experience. The fact that these pieces by Monet, Sargeant, Manet, Homer, Van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso, DaVinci, Rothko, Vermeer etc are all a drive away is mind blowing 🤯

If you're in the DC area and haven't seen the various galleries across town, it's worth a few trips out.
