A lot of you know this - my mom played cricket for India. I just watched 83, one of the best movies I have seen recently, directed by . The whole film as I saw huge stars like and more tell a story about the struggles of Indian cricket before the world cup was won - all I could think about was how my mom had been telling me these stories since I was a kid. She played cricket from the extremely young age of 14 til 24, after which she got married. She is a left handed all rounder. If you watch the movie you see scenes describing things such as how vegetarians struggled to find food in other countries, how they did not get much financial support etc- my mom lived this! Here is the huge difference though. is a force, a fantastic cricketer, a legend as people say. He is also a man. My mom, a women’s cricketer in the 70s and 80s had even less resources, or even none to work with. Along with this, women’s cricket only recently found some recognition with the arrival of players like - who is soon getting a biopic starring I believe!
I just want to share with everyone how emotional I was watching 83. How I want the world to know about my mom too. She now coaches cricket here in America and is pretty well known to be a female coach for both boys and girls in the American cricket world! Today is her birthday, I am not with her for the first time perhaps ever today.
