In many ways, Qawwali has shaped our lives and worldview, forming some of our earliest memories of music, devotion, and longing.

Last night, we were honored to attend a special mehfil hosted by the Saami Brothers, keepers of a living Qawwali tradition passed through generations. An intimate evening meant to touch the soul, held within the extraordinary historic home of Clara Aich.

For a few hours, New York felt suspended in poetry, remembrance, improvisation, and listening. Artists, organizers, seekers, and community members gathered together on carpets in shared attention and care.

Listening while Muslim, indeed.
