Nightclubs and bars in California are now required to provide drug testing strips and anti-drink spiking lids as part of new legislation.

First approved in April, the legislation stems from Bill 1982, an amendment to California's Alcoholic Beverage Control Act requiring all Type 48 license holders like bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the state to help prevent spiking by providing testing provisions, lids and signs informing customers that they are available.

The bill was first introduced by venue owner-turned-assembly member Josh Lowenthal, who argued an amendment was needed to help prevent "unreported and difficult to prosecute" instances of sexual assault.

"This is a preventable, solvable crisis of sexual assault, quite honestly, that takes place in the state of California," Lowenthal said as part of an assembly hearing in April (via NY Post).

Bill 1982 also requires venues to have overdose training for CPR-certified staff members amid a rising number of drug-related fatalities and hospitalisations in the state in the last few years. In 2023, fentanyl was linked to 91% of all opioid overdose deaths in California, resulting in a state-wide project to offer free-to-access Naloxone, an overdose reversal drug, to prevent further fatalities.

Things DJs OR bartenders NEVER wanna here from THAT girl coming to a dive bar drunk after a concert.

In a mission to promote self-expression and positivity, Armin van Buuren has made an appearance on Dutch TV show Make Up Your Mind in full drag.

The trance legend appeared on the show over the weekend, which pits drag queens against unknown celebrities dressed in drag and asks them to walk the runway in front of a judging panel.

Armin van Buuren appeared as ‘Mystery Queen’ Daisy Bell, dressed in a white and black dress with a large gold collar, dark brown wig, and a gold fascinator hat in the shape of a traditional Dutch house.

"Hey guys, it’s Armin, not in my usual outfit," he said in a video shared to his stories after the show. "But with this, I want to make a statement and invite everybody to party worldwide, but be who you want to be. Feel free, feel safe, and look after each other."

The A State Of Trance founder then went on to explain how music and dancing have "always been about freedom, expression and bringing people together".

"I want everyone to be themselves and feel safe on dancefloors worldwide," he said. "I'm proud to have taken part in this and hopefully remind you that it's okay to be exactly who you want to be."
