carmen_torres_17.12 CARMEN TORRES on Surrender for ARTidotes

"Everything speaks to me." Sometimes they are readings, people, images, concepts or objects, other times they are experiences or events that become the starting point of what my dialectic is, from which my creative projects emerge. I am interested in questioning, mainly, the imaginary of postmodern women based on my daily life as a testimony. Through the creative process, I put my personal ¨cosmology¨ to the test in a continuous de-construction and reconstruction. The formats or media that I select are clues or traces that summarize these mental tests. Each work has a unique landing that I associate, as I see fit with the material, the technique, the color, the sound, the form and the method that I think it is necessary to use. Many times they land in a single body movement that for me encompasses all of the above. Contemporary existentialism allows me to stress the body and mind as part of the process. I start from the premise that Art is a fertile field for self-management and a platform to actively participate in the world in general in a critical and purposeful way. I present the results of these intimate processes in a space that makes them legible and subjects them to interpretation, hoping that they will resonate in the other in one way or another.
