Meet Michael.
The inspiration I was looking for.
The motivation I was needing.

I’ve always wanted to collaborate with someone outside of the world I work in. Someone who simply loved food because it was a hobby. Because cooking was relaxing to them. Because trying a new recipe, discovering an unexpected flavor or sitting down to a really good meal was something they genuinely enjoyed.

Not because it was their job. Not because they owned a restaurant or had something to sell. But simply because food brought them joy.

Someone who looked at food differently than I do, not from the business side of it, but from the pure enjoyment of it. The kind of person who reads cookbooks for fun & plans a whole trip around a restaurant and gets genuinely excited when they discover something really, really good.

Believe it or not, I get nervous asking people to collaborate (well, for a multitude of reasons😉).
But, in walks Michael and I felt the inspiration settle in + come alive! Once I heard the story behind the pizza he was recreating, I knew this was exactly the kind of collaboration I had been looking for....

A word from Michael:
"We took the pizza class at Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm and, being the nerd that I am, brought my own tomato reduction and basil purée because I wanted to try making Franco Pepe’s Margherita Sbagliata inspired by Pepe in Grani. Emily and Bill liked it and asked if I’d champion a pizza for the weekend. The whole thing really goes back to lists of 'the best pizza in the world' and 'Chef’s Table: Pizza' on Netflix, where Franco Pepe’s approach to pizza really left a mark. We eventually made it to Pepe in Grani in Italy and had the Sbagliata Margherita. It was sublime. It’s a pretty basic pizza, really, but the way he treats those ingredients and puts it all together makes it something special. It stuck with me. So when Emily and Bill gave me the chance to bring the idea to Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm, the only answer is 'yes.'"

Heirloom tomatoes are treasured varieties grown from seeds that have been saved, shared and passed from farmer to farmer for generations, often for 50 + years.Many originated within a particular family, community or culture, carefully preserved because of the qualities people loved most: their unique color, unusual shape and, above all, their flavor.

Unlike modern hybrids, heirlooms come from a time before tomatoes were widely bred for commercial agriculture. During the 20th century, growers increasingly crossed varieties to produce tomatoes that were uniform in size and appearance, resistant to disease and sturdy enough to withstand long-distance shipping. Those qualities made tomatoes easier to grow, transport and sell—but often, flavor became secondary.

This weekend, we are proud to be using Cedar Crates heirloom tomatoes on our weekly feature, the Tomato Pie! Herbed cream cheese base, tomatoes, ribboned basil, parmesan cheese & a sprinkle of sea salt, all on an extra crispy double wood fired pizza crust.

Heirloom tomatoes preserve something different~
a seed, a story & a flavor worth collaborating around💚

Stroll. A Saturday Evening Market
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°🌷

Stroll ...

With that friend who just gets you.

The one you haven’t seen in far too long, but somehow, when you’re together again, no time has passed at all.

The one who can read your mind.
Who shares an unspoken language with you.
Who knows what you’re thinking before you ever say a word.

The one you laugh uncontrollably with.
Who you can talk to for hours, yet always
have more to say.

The one you’ve admired since the day you met her, simply because she is exactly who she is.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

The one who balances you.

Who has seen you at your very best + loved you through your very worst.

The one who knows the secrets.
Who keeps the secrets.
And who has probably forgotten half the secrets because the friendship is that old.

Bring her.

Come wander. Linger. Sip something lovely. Discover something beautiful. Eat pizza. Listen to music. And spend an August evening with a friend who makes life a little better simply by being in it.

STROLL. A Saturday Evening Market.
Because sometimes the best plans are simply making time for each other.

Meet Kimmy, my BFF since 1997🫡

~~~embracing~~~
what matters most
_______________________________🌞
I like to ask newcomers how they found us. And along with their answer, I usually get the why behind their visit.
For one couple on Friday, the why was a birthday.
Visiting a pizza farm had been on their list for quite a while, and finally, his birthday was the reason to make the trip!
As we talked, they shared how much they loved the space. How clean and open it felt. How the musician wasn't too loud, but instead seemed to understand his role to create a feeling in the background while families and friends talked, laughed and caught up with one another, without interruption
Their comments stayed with me because I hear versions of them often, especially from our returning customers. They love the farm because it's simple.
It's easy & it's not distracting.
And it reminded me of something I shared during my keynote at the Food & Ag Tour, when I talked about how the pizza farm has grown over the last 11 years and how we've learned to listen to what our customers want:
"Customers love the quiet and simplicity of their visits, so we continue to not overcomplicate, over-offer or overwhelm with endless options and constant additions. We have learned that growth does not always mean adding more, but protecting what people love the most."
I think I need that reminder every once in a while, too.
Because as a business owner, it's easy to think I need to do more. Add something, pretty it up, decorate or create another experience, offer another option.
But maybe what makes this place special isn't what we keep adding. Maybe it's what we've been careful not to take away...
People aren't necessarily coming here to be entertained every minute they're with us. They're coming to embrace what matters most, simplicity, family, friends, good food & quality time.
They're coming for a space where they can settle in and feel calm. Where there aren't endless decisions to make or distractions competing for their attention. Where the kids run, mom's relax, music plays and phones have limited service. A place that gives people permission to simply be together.
& perhaps one of the most important parts of growing this little pizza farm is remembering that sometimes the very best thing we can do is leave enough alone✨
The jalapeno popper pizza, the favorite of many & for a good reason...
Cream cheese, wood fired bacon + the flavorful drippings, sharp cheddar cheese, our fresh garden jalapenos all cooked to that perfect crispiness & char. Then sprinkled with garlic croutons, for a little crunch.
Creamy. Smoky. Spicy. Crunchy.
Everything a jalapeño popper should be, only on a pizza.
