Artist's Reception - Saturday September 5 - 5-7 pm

The September Exhibit at the Amity Gallery, “A Craftsman’s Retrospective" This exhibit showcases the work of Jacques Hemsi, a local artist and member of the Chardavogne group. He has been making and selling his Jewelry for over 55 years. The exhibit will show all the many steps involved in the creation of making a new piece of jewelry including the casting process he taught himself in order to reproduce each piece. Also shown will be the process of designing and constructing a piece in silver, then making a mold, and setting gems all the way to a finished piece.

For this show, Jacques Hemsi selected a few pieces representing different periods of creativity, from over his 850 jewelry designs. His approach to making jewelry has been influenced by the sensitivity resulting from his spiritual quest. His original designs have been well-known at prestigious juried craft fairs since 1976 and a number of craft shops around the country.

Jazz!! Kunkel & Kopchak with LaRocco, Saturday June 13, 5 pm at the Amity Gallery.

A Jazz Hybrid Guitarist/composer Jim Kunkel and bassist/composer Mickey Kopchak present lyrically and harmonically adventurous music crafted as vehicles for improvisation which spring to life in performance. The depth of their musical partnership (since 2015) is palpable in their live performance. Kunkel switches between classical and electric guitars, enhancing the timbral soundscape, while Kopchak expands the sonic possibilities using various electronic effects, giving his bass a vocal and emotional quality that is always tasty and never “too much.”

Both are seasoned composers in jazz and other genres, affording them an extensive book of original material as well as the occasional interesting interpretation of others’ works.

Rounding out the duo will be Mike LaRocco on Drums and Percussion
