Happy Birthday to Castile’s Doughboy πŸ₯³
Dedicated on May 31, 1926, it is only one of two in New York State (Harrison, Westchester County is the other) and only of 136 across the country. Designed by E.M. Viquesney to honor those who served during WW1.
Funds were raised by the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post #753, and placed at Main & Washington Streets for all to see and pay their respects.

Say Goodbye to H**e and hello to Gainesville!
On April 17, 1816 legislative action was taken to change the town’s name. No one can say for certain why the town was first called H**e, who in Greek mythology was the goddess of youth, vitality and forgiveness.
The town chose to honor General Edmund P. Gaines, who commanded forces at Fort Erie during the War of 1812. He was seriously injured there in 1814 and was awarded a Congressional Gold medal and promoted. Numerous other locations across the country are named after him including the Gainesvilles in Florida, Texas and Georgia.

A great share by one of our neighboring counties.

A great share by one of our neighboring counties.

to the Genesee Falls House in Portageville as it appeared around the early 1900s. Located at the southern end of Letchworth State Park, you can still seasonally rent rooms at the historic bed & breakfast known as the Genesee Falls Inn. Stories suggest that since 1824 there has been a hotel at this spot on the corner of Main and Hamilton Streets. After two wooden hotels on this site burned, owner Joseph Ingham had a new brick structure completed in 1872. This is the iconic red brick building that still stands today.
