From Mr. Dan Foss

Today, at Noon, I made a presentation to the Rotary Club of Astoria during their monthly meeting. It was held in the conference room at the Hotel Elliott, in downtown Astoria. Accompanying me were two of our senior dancers…Zoey Thorne and Athena Farrow. Our wonderful secretary, Brittany Baird, was there too in support of her daughter and to assist in the promotion of our 50th Anniversary of the “The Nutcracker”.

As a reminder, the mission of Rotary Clubs International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business professional, and community leaders.
Our visit began with a big thank you to the Rotarians for having us at their meeting. I then quizzed them with general “Nutcracker” facts. After providing key details about our upcoming shows, I answered their questions and heard nice comments about the legacy of the Little Ballet Theatre’s ‘Nutcracker’”. I continued by sharing the 12-minute PowerPoint presentation on the “History of the Little Ballet Theatre’s ‘The Nutcracker’ “ that I created. Many of the audience members recognized familiar faces from the many years of photos.

To cap off our visit, we were very pleased to have Zoey and Athena performed the “Marionette” variation in front of our hosts. They did so well. It was special!
All in all, it was a very nice event. The audience was very appreciative of our willingness to come before them with our story, and we were very grateful for the Rotarians’ hospitality!
(A special note: At the end of the meeting, they voted and approved an "on-the-spot" donation of $100.00 to the Little Ballet Theatre. Thank you!)

On 21st, Zoey, Athena, and I sat down for a twenty-minute interview at the KMUN studio in Astoria. We had a very nice time chatting about our 50th Anniversary of "The Nutcracker" with longtime host, Carol Newman. The girls did a wonderful job answering questions and were so eloquent. Carol is a former “Parent” from our production and is a big fan of ballet!

This December, a small North Coast dance company will celebrate a big milestone: the Little Ballet Theatre marks 50 years of performing The Nutcracker, a tradition that has shaped generations, lifted young artists, and kept the community dancing together.

At Clatsop County Board of Commissioners regular meeting, a proclamation was read that designates Saturday, December 6th, 2025, as “JEANNE PETERSON DAY” in Clatsop County!
Michelle Rogers, one of Jeanne’s former dancers and current choreographer at L.B.T., read an opening statement about Jeanne. It was then followed by Chairperson Mark Kujala reading the proclamation. (Tissues were distributed around this time.) The proclamation was approved unanimously, and a standing ovation for Jeanne was immediate. Jeanne asked if she could say a few words. She stepped towards the bench and shared her thoughts about the surprise. She concluded by thanking everyone for their kindness.
We are so grateful for Jeanne. She has inspired tens of thousands of students, and adults alike. Her legacy is unmatched. We are blessed to know such a wonderful lady!
We would like to thank the commissioners: Mark Kujala, Courtney Bangs, Luanne Thompson, Pamela Wev, and Anthony Huacuja for approving this recognition of Jeanne. We also would like to thank L.B.T. Board Chairperson Dan Arnoth for his communication with the commission over the past six months. We appreciate Michelle’s heartfelt message, and we are thankful to everyone that attended the meeting. Afterwards, Leslie Farrow (LBT Office Manager) presented Jeanne with an amazing, handmade two-sided diorama with a “Nutcracker” composition on one side, and a “Dancer” theme on the other side.
The evening was quite memorable!!!
