DARK FAIRY/PIXIE HEADDRESS
So, here is one of my personal projects that I've recently finished. I wanted to make this headdress mostly out of natural and upcycled elements. I picked some wild plants like the teasel and the flower of the hour.
I made the base out of grape vines that came from my friend, Trever's garden. I also asked a local florist, named Lindsay from Snail House Food Forest to make me a custom bouquet of flowers for this project.
She chose a lot of beautiful flowers from her garden like Russian sage, agastoche, gomphena, lavendar, bachelor buttons, marigolds, snap dragons, blackberries, yarrow, feverfew, Dalia seed pods, and Nigella seed pods.
I used a lot of old items that I already had like yarn, twine, a coyote skull, felt, quartz crystals, wire, foam board, beads, moss, and scrap cardboard.
I pyrograped designs into the coyote skull. That was kind of difficult, because I discovered a pyrography pen needs to be at least 600ยฐ C to burn bone. Mine only goes to 480ยฐC.
I originally made this headdress for my dark fairy, renfest costume. However, I was very sad to discover that the headdress would be too heavy, floppy and fragile for the event.
With that said, this project is definitely more of an art piece rather than a costume accessory. So, I plan to do a small photoshoot with the headdress, perhaps later this fall?
