Behind the Scenes Thursday!
Things I've done as a wedding coordinator that I never expected to be doing!
You might think a wedding coordinator's job is to keep the timeline moving, organize the ceremony, and make sure everyone is where they need to be. And you're right! But sometimes the unexpected happens, and that's when things get interesting!
Here are a few things I've found myself doing over the years at Harmony Hill Farm!
💍 The missing father of the bride! Just before the ceremony, we couldn't find Dad! Turns out he had gone to the farmhouse to lie down for a few minutes and had fallen asleep. We found him, woke him up, and got him to the ceremony!
🍽️ The last-minute caterer search! One couple parted ways with their caterer on the Wednesday before their Saturday wedding. Three days to go and no one to feed the guests! I got to work and found them another caterer. Crisis averted!
🌧️ The race against the rain! The weather radar showed rain arriving right about the time an outdoor buffet was scheduled to begin. The caterers and I put our heads together, moved dinner up a bit, adjusted the timeline, and got everyone fed before the rain arrived.
💍 The missing wedding rings! Minutes before the ceremony, the best man couldn't find the rings. After a little searching, I found them tucked underneath a shirt in the groomsmen's getting-ready area. Phew!
🎶 The DJ who had the wrong day! This one was a doozy! Despite my reminder and his confirmation, the DJ had the wrong wedding date on his calendar. No DJ for the ceremony! We scrambled, found a Bluetooth speaker, gathered the ceremony songs, and my husband took over as DJ. I gave him the thumbs-up when it was time to play each song, and the ceremony went off without a hitch! The DJ eventually arrived for the reception and, to his credit, didn't charge the couple.
The funny thing about all these situations? Most of the guests had absolutely no idea anything was wrong!
And that's really what a wedding coordinator does. We solve problems, make adjustments, think on our feet, and sometimes come up with a Plan B (or C!) in a matter of minutes.
The goal isn't to have a wedding day where nothing goes wrong. It's to make sure that when something does, the couple can keep right on enjoying their day!
Just another day behind the scenes at Harmony Hill Farm! ❤️
