Looking back at one of those special little moments that happened after hours Wednesday in the Livestock Ring .

4-H members wrapped up the day with a dance party, with Jeff and Wendy Wood spinning the tunes and plenty of kids out on the floor.

Then Beth O'Brien and Missy Baker took over for a cash giveaway just for the kids. An anonymous donor generously gave $500, and the Fair added another $220, making $720 in prizes.

That meant 36 lucky kids each went home with a crisp new $20 bill.

It was a simple evening of music, dancing, laughter and a little extra fun for our 4-H kids after a long day at the Fair.

A big thank you to Jeff and Wendy, Beth and Missy, our anonymous donor, and everyone who helped make it happen. These are the kinds of Fair memories we love looking back on.

At the end of Chubby Checker’s concert, Tuesday night at the fair, a whole bunch of community members got the chance to come up on stage and do the Twist with him.

Were you one of them? Take a look through these photos and see if you can spot yourself!

We are very saddened to learn of the passing of Alice Blackman of Hamden at the age of 101 last week.

Alice lived a remarkable life and gave so much to her community over the years, but those of us at the Delaware County Fair will especially remember how much she loved the Fair.

For many years, Alice served as superintendent of the Table Setting department, sharing her knowledge, encouragement and enthusiasm with generations of Fair exhibitors. Even after stepping away from that role, the Fair remained a place she loved and looked forward to.

Last year, we had the privilege of sitting down with Alice at the Fair and letting her share some of her memories with us. We are especially grateful now to have that interview and to be able to share her voice and her stories once again.

Alice was one of those people who became part of the fabric of the Fair over many, many years. She will be greatly missed by all of us who knew her.

Our thoughts are with Alice’s family and friends.

Please enjoy this interview we recorded with Alice at the Fair last year. We’re so glad we did.

Congratulations to all!

What does a record-breaking Saturday at the Delaware County Fair look like?

Pretty much like this.
Fair Street was packed, the grandstands were full, and there were people everywhere.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a huge day.

Thank you for coming!

We were very happy to welcome documentary filmmaker and photographer Nick Blair back to the Delaware County Fair this year.

Nick created America’s Culture of Crash, his late-1990s documentary about demolition derby culture right here in Walton and the people who made it such a big part of Fair life.

Nearly 30 years later, Nick joined us for both the Monday and Saturday derbies to photograph the action and begin revisiting some of that original work. Along the way, he’s even been able to reconnect with people who appeared in the film, meet a new generation of derby families and make some new friends.

We’re sharing a selection of Nick’s photos from this year’s Fair, and we’re very grateful he allowed us to share them with you.

Thanks, Nick, for coming back to Walton and for capturing another chapter of our demolition derby story.
