Our final Make It project of the school year has come to an end, and it turned out to be one of the most exciting projects we’ve done.

Before we started, I asked the students whether their previous project, Stories in Boxes, had felt small or big. “Very small!” they said. “And not always easy to work on.”

“Well,” I replied, “our next project fits in my pocket.”

Then I pulled out a matchbox containing a tiny miniature world I had made for them.

The reaction was immediate. Students jumped into the project with enthusiasm, and many ended up creating not just one, but two or even three miniature worlds. This time, they had complete creative freedom. Their boxes became memories, dreams, imaginary places, little stories, and ideas that were entirely their own.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to photograph all of them. But opening each tiny box and discovering the miniature world inside felt like opening a door into a different imagination every time.

Thank you, Make It artists, for another year of creativity, surprises, and wonder.

Until next year!

Developing fine motor skills, you say? 😄That’s definitely happening in our Make It classes.

Our new small (literally!) project, “Tiny Worlds,” is happening from Kindergarten through 8th grade. This time, everyone is creating tiny worlds inside miniature matchboxes.

Just look at how focused the students are — and how amazingly they work with microscopic details.

Lights on. Curtain up. Showtime. 🎭

Our Kindergarten through Grade 5 students took the stage for this year’s Theater For Life - Black Box Theater performance — bringing sketches to life.

With 5 student groups and 5 original sketches, each performance brought its own energy, humor, and personality to the stage. We are so proud of the confidence, expression, and teamwork our students showed from beginning to end.

Throughout the school year, these small theatrical pieces grew out of classroom exercises, improvisations, movement studies, ensemble work, theatre games, collaborative creative work, and music carefully chosen to shape the atmosphere and emotional world of each piece.

A huge round of applause to all of our performers and Ms. Jenya Shekhter who helped make the show such a special experience. 👏✨

As I promised, I finally photographed the Future Dorm Rooms projects.Take a look at how incredibly detailed these works are, and how fascinating it was to see what the students imagine their dorm rooms might look like about five years from now.

This project invited students to think not only about design, but also about personality, atmosphere, habits, interests, and the small details that make a space feel truly lived in. Each room became a tiny portrait of an imagined future self — thoughtful, funny, cozy, chaotic, creative, and completely unique.

Theatre for Life • Spring Showcase

Five groups.
Five small performances.
Five worlds.
Five close-knit teams from K through 5th grade who brought to the stage something that truly exceeded all my expectations.

The process was incredibly interesting.
I’ll try to write more about it all sometime soon.

Make It | Three more projects have joined our exhibition 🌿

Places Tell Stories,
Future Dorm Rooms,
and Plants in Pots.

I already shared a little about Plants in Pots and Places Tell Stories — and now the third project has joined the exhibition as well.

In Future Dorm Rooms, middle school students designed and built imagined versions of their future living spaces. The project began with mood boards and continued into constructing miniature rooms while exploring scale, proportion, materials, and techniques for creating small objects. Each room became not only a designed space, but also a reflection of personality, atmosphere, and identity.

I didn’t manage to photograph the exhibition while many of the projects were lit from inside during the open exhibition hours, so here are a few photos taken today in daylight instead.

I’ll keep adding more photographs soon.
