Meet Jenna! Jenna Boling is our creator in its entirety. She wrote, directed, & stars in Missed Directions as Leah. 🍰

Jenna Boling is a triple threat performer with a passion for writing. She graduated from the American Musical Dramatic Academy and set out to write her own show—something she accomplished now—but doesn’t plan to stop here. After leaving AMDA, Jenna went on a National tour with Starquest Dance International as an announcer and sound operator. This next year, she plans to return as an emcee for the company. In her free time, Jenna enjoys spending time with her pets, her friends, cruising in her vintage van., and travelling—LOTS. She wants to thank every single member of the cast and crew; Chris—for being there every step of the way and allowing her to do any of this, Jericho & Bea—both for stepping up and allowing the show to go on, Lindsey & Tim—for being such cheerleaders and bringing the jokes to set building, Cullen & Mabry—for supporting her dreams and being the first in line to volunteer their help, Angelia & Kyle—for taking the time out of their week to help us light up the stage with enthusiasm, and to the personnel at The Collins for letting us use Jenna’s favorite theatre to put on this production. “I couldn’t have ever dreamed of doing any of this without all of you. From the bottom of my heart—thank you, truly.” She hopes everyone enjoys the show and invites you to come talk to her in the lobby after.

🔜Come meet Jenna & company TOMORROW!!🔙

From Jenna—
🍰Where do I even begin with Leah? For one, I play her in the show, so I would hope I’ve gotten to know her very well between the composition of her character and her words, but also the deep dive I’ve gotten to do inside of her mind. Leah is a bakery owner struggling to move on from her past whilst attempting to reconnect with her father. She has gotten so far from where she was in her past already by the beginning of the show, but watching her grow ever further gives me this immense amount of pride. Just like everyone else, she’s human. She’s stubborn, sassy, and a little nosy, but on the flip of that she’s caring, protective, and strong. She is so resilient in the face of so much thrown at her. It’s what makes this show so cool because you get to see every single one of these characters at their best and their worst—which also makes for great debate on the drive home from the show. Most of all though, Leah is a large part of me. Just as George, Lucas, and Maya are. Some of you may know me and some of you may not, but after this show, I think audiences will know not only myself, but THEMSELVES better. I am so thrilled to see everyone tomorrow. I have poured so much heart and soul into this project from Day 1. I have nothing but thanks for my wonderful cast mates, crew, and to you, reader, for supporting, sharing, and hopefully coming to see the show. After, please come find me in the lobby and say, “hello!” I would love to hear what you think and personally thank you for coming out.🍰

From Jenna—
📓Lucas was a PAIN to write. Not because of himself but because if I’m being honest, within Lucas are housed the best and worst parts of myself. It was really hard to sit down and be faced dead on, no sugarcoating, with my best and worst qualities like that. Hearing my cast and crew give feedback about things he said and did was a character study on my own psyche in a way I wasn’t sure I enjoyed at times. (Jokes!) Lucas is absolutely not the villain. In fact, no one in this show is a villain or a hero. They’re just…people. The best and worst of everyone you know—including yourself. I think that’s what makes these characters so interesting is how rich and complicated they are as individuals. They’re real. They are you and me right in front of you. The hardest scene I ever had to write in this show was Luke’s biggest character arc in Act II. I cried like a baby and it took a month for me to even find the words for maybe three lines because that’s how real he was to myself and from myself. I think a lot of people will find themselves in Missed Directions and it’s a strange and beautiful feeling to see yourself right in front of you in art like that.📓

Meet Jericho! Jericho Smith plays, “George,” in this original production. 🎨

Jericho Smith is an A-State graduate with a degree in Theatre. All his life, he has wanted to be an actor. But it wasn't until he went to A-State that he discovered his love for live theatre and singing. Since then, he has been in numerous productions in NEA, notable ones include William Barfee in CSP's "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Jacob Marley in A-State's "A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play," the Adult Males in CSP's "Spring Awakening," Mr. Mushnik in CSP's "Little Shop of Horrors," the Leading Player in "Pippin," and Drew Boley in "Rock of Ages," both by Act II Performing Arts. Being involved in an original production like this is extremely exciting for Jericho, especially since his character is one he relates to a lot. He is thrilled to be working alongside this talented cast and hopes the audience will enjoy this beautifully written show!

Come meet George and the rest of the cast! Saturday!!

From Jenna—
🎨George was a character that I related deeply to from the Get-Go. I fully understand, “riding the struggle bus of the artist’s world,” as Lucas puts it for us. What I couldn’t relate to but desperately wanted to understand was the way George handles himself within the world. He’s a very reserved and introspective character with a lot of depth. On the outside, he’s awkward and lovable, but on the inside he struggles to connect with himself and others. He’s not the only character in the show to struggle with his passions and reality for himself, but he’s the one whom I relate to about that factor the most. It’s well known the world doesn’t always take so kindly to creatives and George is a beautiful example of the beauty that hides behind the mask. Come meet him and his friends this weekend and see for yourself! Maybe you’ll relate or learn a thing or two about yourself.🎨

From Jenna—
💍Maya is someone whom I struggled to write. She deserved justice for herself and for all of the beautiful humans she represented. It’s not a secret that I have poured bits of myself knowingly and accidentally into all of these characters. They carry with them my thoughts, fears, flaws, secrets, and love. Maya, in particular, carries heavily my yearning to have a balance in my life. I feel a lot of people can relate to the struggle of having to choose between your passions, your reality, and your happiness. She holds herself with such dignity and strength that makes her an admirable character. She is proof that you can have big feelings and not have everything all figured out and still deserve to take up space and be loved. Brenya came in and brought a new flavor to Maya I hadn’t even imagined. She breathed new life into her and never fails to make me laugh and tear up at the personality and humility she exudes as Maya. Come see it all come to life for yourself this weekend and meet Maya. We would love to have you!💍

Meet Tim! Tim Ward is our stage hand and makes a brief appearance as, “Dad,” in Missed Directions.

Tim Ward is a husband, father, and true friend with a great love for theatre. From starting out as a reason to "get out there," and not feel like "I don't belong here,” to having his whole family (blood and chosen) involved in this very rewarding hobby. He even met his wife through theatre friend connections. He enjoys acting, singing, prop building, and generally collaborating to bring shows to life. He is excited to step back and let others shine but still loves to help however needed.

Come meet Tim and crew this weekend!
