The horror world lost a true legend.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of the incomparable Tim Curry at the age of 80.

For horror fans, he gave us two characters that could not have been more different, yet both became permanently etched into pop culture — the unforgettable Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a generation’s nightmare fuel as Pennywise in Stephen King’s IT.

But Curry was so much more than those roles. Legend, Clue, Annie, Home Alone 2 and countless stage, film and voice performances showed just how incredibly talented and unique he was.
There was only one Tim Curry.

His performances inspired generations of actors, filmmakers, horror fans and wonderfully weird people everywhere — and his work will continue doing so for generations to come.

From all of us at the Horror Movie Freaks Film Festival, thank you for the scares, the laughs, the music and the memories.
Rest in peace, Tim Curry. 🖤

The HMF Film Fest is back at the Palmetto Theatre of Walnut Cove this October, and yes — costumes are absolutely welcome!

Dress up as your favorite horror character, killer, monster, final girl, creature, or whatever twisted idea you can come up with, then hit the red carpet and get some photos in front of the HMF backdrop. Whether you go all-out or just show up ready for a night of indie horror, we want everyone to have a good time.

It’s getting closer… and we’re ready to bring the horror back to Walnut Cove!

The 9th Annual HMF Film Fest takes over the Palmetto Theatre of Walnut Cove October 16th & 17th!

Two nights celebrating independent horror, filmmakers, Halloween, and everything we love about the genre. If you’re a horror fan looking for something different to do this October, come hang out with us and support some seriously talented indie filmmakers.

Official Selections will be announced in September, with tickets available through FilmFreeway shortly after!

The submissions are in and judging is officially underway for the 9th Annual Horror Movie Freaks Film Festival.

First off, a huge thank you to every filmmaker who submitted this year. We know how much work goes into making these films and putting them out there, and we appreciate you trusting HMF with your work.

Now comes the hard part for us.

Our judges are going through the submissions and Official Selections will be announced in September. Good luck to everyone who submitted — we’ve got a lot to watch and a lot of tough decisions ahead.

The 9th Annual HMF Film Fest takes place October 16th & 17th, 2026 at the Palmetto Theatre of Walnut Cove.

Tickets will also be available in September through FilmFreeway.

🎬 SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN 🎬

The 9th Annual Horror Movie Freaks Film Festival is officially accepting submissions as of February 1, 2026, and we’re ready to see the nightmares you’ve been creating.

We’re looking for Feature Films, Short Films, Super-Shorts, and Screenplays from horror creators around the world to take the screen at the historic Palmetto Theatre.

Each year HMF continues to grow, bringing filmmakers and fans together for a live theatrical celebration of independent horror.

If your project is ready to terrify an audience, submit now through Filmfreeway.com/hmffilmfest and be part of the next chapter of HMF.
