Some nerdiness fo’ ya: 🤓
Sony ICF-9650W table radio “restored”! Mid to late 70’s vintage.
Was purchased as dead. Amplifier IC (Sanyo LA4230) was the culprit. Interestingly enough this amplifier is capable of 6-8 watts output which is pretty stout for a table radio. Sounds awesome with that big Pioneer speaker! FM is almost perfect, AM seems deaf but this radio still needs an alignment. Ended up re-capping it while it was all apart, but it probably didn’t need it.

R.I.P. Mike Streeto…
Mike was a musician friend who played drums in a Beatles tribute band (The Hofners) also a Credence Clearwater Revival band (Hey Tonight) and many others I’m sure. I met him over 20 years ago when I had my studio on Tremont St. in Meriden. He was a great musician and a super nice guy. You will be missed, brother. Rest easy…

Day 10 of 20. I was challenged by Jon Peckman to share 20 albums in 20 days that greatly influenced my “all over the place” musical taste.
Today we have a masterpiece from the Beastie Boys “Paul’s Boutique”. I believe this was the “straw that broke the camel’s back” as far as the music industry and government cracking down on the use of samples. I think it’s one of the most incredible and creative usage of samples in recorded music. They don’t even remember half the music they sampled according to a book I read on the making of this album. Enjoy!

Day 8 of 20. I was challenged by Jon Peckman to share 20 albums in 20 days that influence my “all over the place” musical taste.
So it’s probably a known fact that many sound guys like to use Steely Dan music to play through their sound systems to aid in tuning in the system. This is due to the impeccable attention to sonic detail in which these albums were recorded and produced. This may lead to the question, “I wonder what Steely Dan’s sound guy plays through his system to tune his system?” Well, someone asked him and this album was his response. A true sonic masterpiece and great songs. Enjoy, “Aliens Ate My Buick” from Thomas Dolby!
