I keep getting asked why I quit being the HS rodeo advisor. I did not quit, I was forced out by Mary Williams and Dawn Hilgenkamp and others on the rodeo booster club. I was told ”I wasn’t doing enough” and “my daughter doesn’t feel like a team”.
I didn’t want to make the kids do too much, as they are already forced to do so much throughout their school years. I wanted rodeo to be fun and the practice rodeo makes enough to cover expenses.
But, I always told the kids at the beginning of each year, if there is something more you would like to see done just name it.
Over the years we went together with Philip to give two All-Around saddles (which were mostly sponsored). For the last couple years we added Kadoka and made it the 3 rivers challenge and added an average award for each event. (Which I found a sponsor for and they will not sponsor anymore without me). And now, no saddle, no 3 rivers challenge.
I had a sponsor for team coats.
The kids vote on the stock contractor and help line up the workers for the practice rodeo.
Last year was so great, it was Practice Rodeo of the Year!!
But I wasn’t doing enough!
