As we enter the final week of the pool season, we’d like to say some ‘thank yous’.

To the lifeguards: Thank you for showing up and doing a great job every day. We see how busy your summer breaks are and we appreciate you choosing to serve the community in the midst of your busyness. You’ve made this summer successful and you are appreciated. We wish you the best this upcoming school year!

To the City of WaKeeney: Thank you for all the support you’ve given our staff this summer. We receive so many compliments about the pool’s water quality and how beautiful our facilities are (both the swimming pool and city park). We always try to deflect those to you and your team, but please know it is noticed and appreciated.

To the community: Thank you for being great! Our community is full of great families that make our job a little easier. We are grateful for those who stop in and recognize the work our lifeguards have done this summer. Just yesterday, a family delivered pizza for our guards free of charge. It is nice to feel seen and appreciated. So thank you for every time you’ve said ‘thank you’ to us; whether with pizza, popsicles or with your words.

We’ve had a really good summer thus far at WaKeeney Water Park. As we wind down the last few weeks of the pool, I wanted to make you aware of a few things.

1. August 9th will be our last day open for the summer. We will host a dog swim on August 15th (more details to come).

2. We’ve had to deal with more disciplinary issues stemming from our slide and map features this summer compared to others. These issues are not from our out-of-town guests; these are from people who have grown up with the same set of rules for these features for years. They know the rules but are choosing to not adhere to them. Our lifeguards have enforced these rules by:

1st offense = warning
2nd offense = sitting out of the pool for a time determined by the lifeguard
3rd offense = no longer allowed to use these features

While this has worked with some kids, it hasn’t with others. Because our lifeguards need to focus on more than just a few kids, we have decided that any future offenses by people who have been warned will be asked to leave the pool for the rest of the day. Any future offenses beyond that will result in not being able to return to our pool for the rest of the summer. It is important that our patrons respect the authority of our lifeguards and the rules set in place. Parents, please help us out by making sure your kids understand these consequences.

3. Our concession stand will be very limited for the rest of the summer. We will have drinks (water, soda, Gatorade) and Sno-Cones for purchase. If you feel like your family will need snacks for your time at the pool, feel free to bring what you need.

We hope to see you at WaKeeney Water Park before we close for the summer.

Because of a situation at the pool this evening, our night swim has closed early. We will re-open tomorrow at 1.
