THE BRAKE TYME BAND ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF FOUNDER DON BRAKE; DAVE ARNER TO ASSUME OWNERSHIP AS BAND WELCOMES DRUMMER RAY BURNETTE
HENDERSON, NC — The Brake Tyme Band announces a significant milestone in its history: the retirement of its original founder from active performance and business operations, the transition of leadership to a long-time member, and the addition of a seasoned new talent behind the drum kit.
After more than a decade of keeping dance floors packed across Central North Carolina and Southern Virginia, band founder Don Brake is stepping down from active participation and business management of the group. A native of Rocky Mount and a 33-year veteran of the CSX Railroad, Don launched the Brake Tyme Band in late 2012. Over the last 14 years, his vision, leadership, and passion built the band into a regional staple. While he is retiring from the road and the front office, Don plans to remain a fixture at upcoming performances, cheering the band on and continuing to support and promote the group he built from the ground up.
Stepping into the role of owner and business manager to guide the band's next era is long-time member Dave Arner. Dave will assume all business operations, booking management, and leadership responsibilities for the group, ensuring a seamless transition and keeping the band’s signature momentum.
Simultaneously, stepping into the rhythm section is veteran drummer Ray Burnette. A US Air Force veteran and Henderson native now residing in Wake Forest, Ray has spent decades performing across the region and beyond, including tenures with Saltee Dawg, The Veronica Hatton Band, and Hicksboro Station. From major regional festivals to the legendary Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville, Ray’s deep pocket and diverse experience make him the perfect fit for Brake Tyme's signature high-energy variety setlists.
Ray joins a veteran lineup featuring front men Scott Brantley and Tracy Dunn, guitarist Gary Jensen, Chris Reed on keyboards and vocals, Noah Brantley on bass and guitar, and Dave Arner on trumpet and flugelhorn.
"Don Brake laid a foundation of crowd engagement, non-stop energy, and musical variety that defines who we are," the band said in a joint statement.
