Wake Forest Chess Club We meet every Monday night 6-8 PM. Join us! We meet upstairs at the Wake Forest Coffee Company, 156 South White Street, Wake Forest, NC.

Please bring a chess set and clock and plan to join us when you can. No charge except for special events.

The Lee Family and their guests were known to enjoy chess sets, like this one!

The style of chess popular in the 17th and 18th century was called Romantic Chess, and it focused on quick, tactical moves rather than long, drawn out strategies. More than just a fun way to pass time, Chess was a way to show off one’s strategic abilities.

Anne Hill Carter Lee, Robert E. Lee’s mother, taught her sons how to play an impressive game of Chess. She kept moral principles at a high standard, however, as she is reported to have required her son Carter to return the money he won in a bet to his paying rival.
