✨ Step into the Gilded Age with Firebox Theatre!

Our actors have been rehearsing to bring fascinating characters to life this Friday at the Time Voyager's Ball, and we’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes glimpse of their preparation for this immersive experience. We’re also delighted to support our friend Maria Kordit, the local artist and creative force behind this unique event. Maria is a professional ballroom dancer and owner of MK Creative Arts Studio.

The Time Voyager's Ball invites guests to be transported to the Gilded Age through elegant surroundings, fascinating characters, immersive rooms, delicious cocktails, dance performances, live painting, cinema, and so much more. It’s an evening designed to bring the arts together in an unforgettable way!

🎭 Meet the Director: Thom Christensen

One of the most rewarding parts of creating a production is watching the story and characters take shape in the rehearsal room.

For Misery, Thom Christensen has brought great care to that process. Thom has worked closely with our actors to develop these characters and uncover the story at the heart of Misery. He’s a thoughtful director and a delight to have on the Firebox team.

Thom is an award-winning actor with training in New York and Chicago. Since moving to North Carolina, he has performed with Burning Coal, Theatre in the Park, and Firebox, where he played Froggy in The Foreigner. His directing credits include Twelfth Night, Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, and Metamorphosis.

Now it’s time to see what they’ve created. Misery opens Friday at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre!

🎭During tech week, all the pieces start coming together.

Our cast and production team are bringing the technical elements of Misery to life, including the physical and dramatic moments developed with our fight choreographer, George Labusohr.

George is an actor and fight choreographer who has worked with theatres and schools throughout the Raleigh/Durham area for the past 12 years. We're glad to have him working with our cast as we get these moments ready for the stage. 🔨

Opening night is just a few days away.

A lot goes into getting a show onstage.

For weeks, our production team and volunteers have been building and painting the set for Misery. This weekend, all that work came together as we loaded the set into the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. 🎉

Now the set is in place, the paint is dry, and we’re heading into tech week.

Opening night is Friday. 🎭
