For years, I made fatherhood my identity, my purpose, and the way to instantly add value to my own existence. I was trying to serve 3 purposes teach the father I needed, honor the man I was becoming, and help the children I was raising.
Then my therapist asked me a question I couldn’t ignore:
“Would you put your children under that same pressure?”
That’s when I realized my “why” had become too heavy. I knew how to be a good father, but I hadn’t fully discovered who I was outside of fatherhood.
I still wrestle with the question; Are men valued outside of their roles as provider, father and husband?

Watching your friend become a father is something special. You get to witness the boy you grew up with step into a new version of himself more disciplined, intentional, and committed to becoming the man his family needs.

Find your people, join a group, and surround yourself with men who are committed to learning and becoming better fathers together.

has found community, I truly hope he can hold himself when he feels lonely and know the Father that holds the world together.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen for every young person who speaks up. Too many abused or neglected children are met by people who recognize their vulnerability and intend to exploit it.
And for the parents who know their unresolved trauma has created distance between them and their child, healing is still possible. Accountability is not the end of your story it can be the starting place for repair.
I wrote because sometimes, loving our children well requires us to go back and raise the wounded parts of ourselves.

There’s nothing like a good mother, kids in their adolescence need people in their corner who will root for them and hold them accountable, not abuse, kick them out and call the police. Shout out to all the good moms out there breathing through this parenting thing. I know it’s Hard! 🙌🏿

Almost lost it… a reminder to talk to yourself and encourage yourself. I’m so grateful for the work I’ve done in therapy that has allowed me to hold myself accountable and hold myself like the father I am and I needed. Proud of you Son!
