Art is a powerful thing. If you haven't seen anything at Open Window Theatre put it on your list. They do great work, and it's clearly having an impact.
β€οΈβπ©Ή A POWERFUL TESTIMONIAL β€οΈβπ©Ή
It means a lot when patrons share their experiences with us after a show, either in the form of an online review, engagement with our social media content, or simply via email or person-to-person conversations. Itβs a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.
Testimonials like the one below from Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis are profoundly encouraging and inspire us to keep going, even in the midst of all the challenges we face as a non-profit arts organization.
This testimonial is being shared with permission because it serves as a great example of the power of our redemptive mission in the arts. It highlights the potential of good storytelling to facilitate healing and communion, especially within hearts and communities that have experienced terrible trauma, like the Annunciation community.
Last Thursday, we hosted a group of students from Annunciation, and we worked with school officials in advance to modify the performance in order to remove certain sounds and images that could be triggering for their students, while still maintaining the integrity of our production.
The performance was a great success, and afterward we received this heartfelt message...

"Please extend my deepest gratitude to the entire Open Window Theater Team--everyone who made today possible for Annunciation. My students had such a powerful experience today.
"Experiencing that story with them, hearing the Giver and Jonas grapple with suffering, and how it intertwines with joy and love, hearing Jonas put a stop to the game of war because of all the weight it holds, because no one in his community really understands what it means--because how could they?--listening to the final song, all of it brought me and many of my student to tears. Tears of recognition and communion. You all did a beautiful job, and you did a beautiful thing for us, especially. So thank you.
"Beauty will indeed save the world."
