Matt Hutton and Erin Hutton created a piece inspired by forests, animals, and Japanese folklore.

Exploring the balance between the fox and rabbit — symbols of opposition and harmony — their work reflects the connection between nature, storytelling, and wood.

Using steam-bent ash, Japanese yew, and embroidered details, the final composition captures a quiet and playful spirit rooted in the forest and Mt. Fuji

“Normally, wood like this is overlooked and discarded.” — Tak Yoshino

Using forgotten mulberry wood once used in silkworm farming, Mr. Yoshino creates works that reveal the hidden soul and beauty within the material itself. Guided by the wood’s natural grain, shape, and hollow spaces, each piece becomes a dialogue between nature and design. 🌳 木魂

Nine days.
531 timber pieces.
422 joints.
7 tons of reclaimed Sal wood.

Built by hand during World Wood Day 2016, this structure is a full-scale wooden replica of the Changu Narayan Temple—one of Nepal’s oldest temples.

It’s a living demonstration of Nepal’s traditional timber craftsmanship—where every joint tells a story, and no nails are needed to hold it together.
