This Memorial Day feels especially meaningful as I reflect on friendship, freedom, community, and the people who leave lasting marks on our lives. ❤️🤍💙
Years ago, during the renovation of the very first 757 Dance studio on Rosemont Road, we had the honor of bringing artists Pierre Delprat and Marie from France to paint this mural as a dedication to Hampton Roads and the military community that protects the freedoms we cherish every day.
Pierre, his mother Catherine (who worked for NATO), and his sister Laura became more than ballroom dance students…they became dear friends and part of our dance family. Together, we celebrated art, culture, music, food, laughter, and the beauty of both Hampton Roads and France. From the Eiffel Tower and cathedrals of Paris to memories inside our studio, those moments will always hold a special place in my heart.
Not long after the mural was completed, tragic bombings overseas and concern for loved ones brought them home sooner than expected. Though miles now separate us, the love, friendship, and creativity they shared remain woven into so many memories here in Hampton Roads.
This Memorial Day, I’m reminded that freedom connects people across oceans, languages, and cultures. We are deeply grateful to all who have served and sacrificed so communities like ours can continue to dream, create, dance, gather, and live freely.
To our military heroes:
Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your service. 🇺🇸
And to our friends across the world:
You are missed more than you know. ❤️
