We’re in our final weeks of classes, final week for seniors and the days are flying by!

Art IV and some independent students have been screen printing this week in our makeshift dark room and everyone has been wrapping up projects.

We’re silk screening designs by using emulsion and burning the designs into the screens with UV light.

We also snuck in one last field trip with the help of Ms. Russel to the St. Louis Art Museum and enjoyed some pretty awesome milkshakes after.

I fell off posting just before the Art Show because I didn’t want to ruin the show AND we’ve been so busy in the art room. The show was well attended and it was really cool to see it come together!

Zoey McCoy won best in show for 2D
Ruby Lowder won best in show for 3D

We’ve been working with all the mediums and are wrapping up the year with screen printing (photos to come), some silly caricature exercises, lino prints, graphite, paints and just finishing up with wet clay.

Mr. Troutwine joined us for oil paint practice with Bob Ross, we’ve been working on our Panther Ross mural, and we delivered our imaginary friend projects to the 2nd graders.

It’s been a busy, beautiful year.

Poortrait Orders are officially closed! Thank you to everyone who supported us! All Poortraits will be delivered by Friday 2/13.

We are selling Candy Grams for $3 next week Monday-Wednesday during lunch and will be passing them out during Friday Lunch 🙂 Parents can also send one to their kiddos!

The Art Sale will now be moved to the Art Show just to give the kids more time to create trinkets.

All of the money raised goes directly into the Art Club account for the mural, field trips, and art activities the kids want to do.

Friday Favs along with some final Poortraits! Kids are working on ceramic foods, teapots, and creature mugs. Also masks, hand drawings, and independent work 🙂

Friday and the weekend were busy with the Scholastic Art Show + Awards set up, viewing, and presentations.

If you get the chance, do check out the Scholastic Art Gallery at the Springfield Art Association this month.

Poortraits are in their final week of orders— last day is Friday. The kids are doing awesome. If you’d like to order please message or email me.

Some faves from last week are in the mix of some photos of the Poortraits.

As always, thanks for supporting the Arts and following along!

Poortraits are going SO well! We stop selling them February 6th and have a limit on how many orders we will take (we’re getting close to halfway there) so make sure you get yours emailed soon!

Friday Faves! There are a few works in progress, a few finished, and we’re gearing up for the art show. Drawing and painting finished their first round of self portraits and now we’re learning proportions/all of the facial pieces separately on Sketchy Wednesdays to compare a self portrait at the end of the semester 🙂.

Students entered the Regional Scholastic Art Competition this year and North Mac walked away with some awards! There were over 700 entries, 32 counties.

We had 5 of our 12 entries receive high marks and the work will be shown at the Scholastic Regional Art show. It's hard to know what the judges will pick and what will do well.

One of our students, Izzie Ewing, received the one of the highest awards (Gold Key) and her piece goes on to compete nationally. Three of our students (Mia, Fayth, and Hayleigh) received Honorable Mentions for their photography— which is pretty amazing considering they’re all first year photographers. The awards top-down go: Gold Key, Silver Key, Honorable Mention)

The Scholastic Art Exhibition will be held at the Springfield Art Association, 700 North Fourth Street in Springfield, beginning February 1, 2026 thru February 26, 2026.

I'm so proud of all the kids that entered and put their art out there to be judged-- it's a very scary thing to do.

Make sure you check out the Scholastic Art Show in February and get excited for our District Art Show on March 18th!

Hayleigh Hamilton is not pictured with the group because she graduated early (woo-hoo!)

Edit: Email address was originally incorrect and is updated now-- sorry for the hiccup!

Art Club’s Poortraits fundraiser is LIVE!

You: Give us a photo of two people or you with your favorite pet (and money)

We: Give you an original 5x7 (possibly questionable) masterpiece

We can’t promise the style or level of artistry… but we CAN promise it will be one-of-kind.

Email Mrs. (Emily) Gillis to place your order! We’re opening sales up virtually now and will sell them during a lunch (date TBD) for the students to purchase in person if they prefer.

These are open to the public and I will find a way for community members to pick up or I can drop off (if local).

Also… some belated Friday faves 🙂 we’re creating hidden teapots, practicing on the wheel, starting the semester with self portraits in drawing and painting, working on color schemes in Art 1, and masks in Art 4(not pictured— next week! 🙂 ).

Thanks for supporting the arts! The kids are excited to create these!
