The OSS Society celebrates the historical accomplishments of the OSS during World War II—the first organized effort by this nation to implement a centralized system of strategic intelligence, spearheaded by the legendary General “Wild Bill” Donovan—and educates the public regarding the continuing importance of strategic intelligence to the preservation of freedom in this country and around the world.

A THOUSAND AND ONE playing at the this weekend.

The title of A.V. Rockwell’s film, “A Thousand and One,” speaks to the many struggles 22-year-old Inez (Oscar nominee Tenyana Taylor) faces as she tries to raise her son in New York City in the late 1990s and 2000s.

Rockwell infused the film with her own personal history of growing up Black in Harlem. She told Essence, “What really compelled me to tell this story so urgently was seeing firsthand the impact of gentrification on the Black communities of New York City.” And as a superb storyteller, Rockwell, for good measure, throws a curveball in her ending, which tosses everything you thought you understood into question.

7:30 PM — TUNER — Leo Woodall stars as a gifted young piano tuner whose heightened sense of hearing draws the attention of criminals, who see his talents as useful for opening safes as well as for tuning Steinways. With his once-promising musical career over, he works across New York with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Academy Award-winner Dustin Hoffman), encountering a range of characters, including composition student Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), with whom he forges an unexpected connection. Niki’s safecracking work threatens his budding romance with Ruthie and pulls him into increasingly dangerous territory.
